Ajijic, a small idyllic town in Mexico, is the perfect setting to enjoy a quiet and relaxing holiday. Enjoy a night of lively music in the plaza of this picturesque town or enjoy a stroll along the lakeside path. Just a nice quiet place to walk along the water and spend some quality time with yourself or others. If you need more stimulation or just a bite to eat the city rolls out for you just a block off the Malecon.

Growing up in Chicago I had three different cemeteries surrounding my house. I played inside of these cemeteries by myself and with friends and was fascinated by the history of the sides and those buried in the grounds. Going to places like New Orleans and seeing the above ground burial plots and the celebration of life passed within these places always peeked my imagination. Going to a Mexican cemetery in Ajijic made me realize even more why I love Mexico, it’s culture, and people. They celebrate life and death equally and respect those that have long passed preserving the memories and the spirit of those who came before them!

This is a beautiful church and has lovely morning bells that may be heard all over town. At the very end of the street/highway (Guadalajara/Chapala highway). Beautifully decorated at Los Dias De Los Meuretes, Oct 31st - Nov 2nd. This is a very attractive architectural and religious gem at the lakes edge and all visitors should take a peek at it if at all possible.

You see many, many interesting things here, from statues to photographs of old people from Ajijic, to children playing and singing, to real, good musicians playing swing. Both Mexicans and foreiigners walk around calmly or sit on the multiple benches under the trees or at the restaurants, bars and cafés. I was surprised that, as in all over the country, there were street dogs, but they look well fed. I asked and people told me that everybody feeds the street dogs in Ajijic. There is an animal shelter founded by an American, but the dogs that were taken there used to be free and prefer to live on the streets!
