We enjoyed a little tour of what is Europe's only coffee plantation and processor. What a treat! The delightful tour was capped off with the tasting of 3 wines and the house coffee. Educational, enjoyable even our 4-year old had himself a very good time.
Amazing location nestled amongst the Valleys. Brilliant for the crops that do not do well in direct sunlight.
The vineyard produces an impressive selection of wines.

Maipes de Agaete

Maipés Archaeological Park is located in the village of Agaete in the north west of Gran Canaria. Maipés is a volcanic lava plain in which a burial ground used by the ancient inhabitants of the island is preserved. There are almost 700 tombs, some of which were constructed over 1.300 years ago.

Reviewed By AMsays - Thornhill, Canada

Maipes Archaeological Park has been deemed a Cultural Heritage Site, not only for the ancient burial grounds here but for the geology, plant and animal life on this volcanic lava plain. There have been almost 700 cadaver containing tombs discovered here. The burial mounds above the tombs reach up to 8m wide and 3m high. Much work has been done on the site and it shows with the various exhibits which have all been well described in various languages. On site there is an Interpretation Centre with more models. The various grades of paths have been adapted for the disabled. Certainly is an amazing place...

Natural Pool

Reviewed By AMsays - Thornhill, Canada

Three main swimming pools sheltered from the open ocean have been created naturally amongst the volcanic material strewn on this island and linked by tubes of rock. There are some battlement-like short protective columns on one side and places to sunbathe on the other side, but it is still rough rock you are walking on so you have to be careful. Water in December was very cold, but invigorating. Easy walk to these pools from town. Past Las Salinas you can venture up alongside cliff side homes. There were no toilet facilities at the location.

Don't miss it! This botanical garden was created in the XIXth c. by an influential family of Agaete, called De Armas. You'll find all sorts of Canarian and exotic trees (bananas, avocados, mangoes...) and plants. If you're lucky, you can pick up fruits like mangoes.
Since 1975, the garden has been acquired by the Town Hall of Agaete. Take advantage of the presence of the gardeners to ask them about the plants. They're a real encyclopedia!
Opened from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11am to 5pm.
Fee: EUR1.50

We were the only Brits in the place and we're expecting some authentic Canarian flavours.
The menu is presented in Spanish, German, English and French with some colour pictures. The translations are a bit misleading so I ended up with deep fried calamari rings (a huge plateful) when I'd have preferred the 'baby squids' and my partner had Argentinian sausage.
The service was hopeless. They brought the food but provided no cutlery or napkins, no salt / pepper or sauces. We had to go in search across the restaurant.
Mains - grilled chicken for me and flamenco eggs for my man.
The chicken was just that - grilled slices of chicken. Tasted of nothing and was quite tough.
The flamenco eggs were unspeakable. Solid yolks and covered in big splashes of ketchup.
We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Worst food we had in 10 days. Worst service ever.

We (I and my 11 old son) were one week holiday in Agaete. My son got a chance to try diving...It was very nice experience to him and highlight of his holiday! :) Service was very kindly and professional! We don`t speak very good English, but before going to water, directions told us very well and also with video and body language, so we understood! :) And I could be very trustful when my son went under water with expert diver. My son was quite excited, because it was his first time. But if we had had more time, he has would come again. But if we have chance to come again to Agaete, we really will come again! Thank You very much, and we also got fantastic video of this memoryrich dive. Many many greeting from here Finland! Ulla and Walto :) We really suggest!

Finca Los Castanos

Finca Los Castanos is a farm that grows coffee, located in the Valley of Agaete, only one place of Europe where coffee is grown traditionally (XIX). On our farm you can meet growing coffee, and all the processes before to drinking from a cup. Come and meet us.

Go up probably the lushest valley on the island to find tropical fruit as well as oranges and lemons growing in this amazing narrow but fertile farming area. At the top you park and then walk on up under about 100 yards of vine pergola to find coffee bushes happily fruiting, while around the walls of the Finca the berries dry in special racks. Go in and try the distinctive wines and a cup of the lightly roasted coffee. Local ham and cheese set them off perfectly, as does a cake with the coffee. Taste oranges fresh from the tree and marvel at it all. This family-run Enterprise is warmly welcoming and you can buy the coffee beans as well as wines and cheese.

Again we missed going inside this grand old chapel as its closed in the afternoon. Interesting façade amidst the green ferns and close to the dock. I was told that this chapel has an old history interwoven with the local area. Inside it is supposed to be tranquil and full of spiritual relics and worth seeing. Maybe next time...

This "beach" is not easy to access. We are talking about stones and an environment surrounded by Mountains and stones. For sure, could be interesting to watch a sunset from here but otherwise, nothing is very special with this compared to other places here.
The rest of this valley is just a normal valley. Quite green compared to the most other places on the island.
