Santa Tecla Celtic Village

Reviewed By chickandbeast - Durham, Canada

Amazing ruins of an ancient tribal village spanning the slopes of a mountain in Northern Spain. Santa Tecla Celtic Village clearly displays celtic village life.
The uncovered ruins are a sight to see obviously each hut is connected to the group sharing a partial circular wall. They appear similar in size bases constructed of local stone with central gathering areas.
Couple of hours for sure to walk among the ruins and take in the areas sights.

Muinos do Folon e do Picon

Reviewed By dawnGalicia - galicia

the Folon Watermills, all 5o+ of them, are an amazing sight in a beautiful setting in the southern cormer of Pontevedra Province (no the city of Pontevedra) near La Guardia. They are signposted from the coast road (also spectacular) from Baiona to La Guardia. The walk, up one side of the hill and down the other, takes a couple of hours and there's a great bar at the bottom.

Praia do Moledo

A beautiful beach where we even found it relatively easy to park close by, and there is the choice of the town as a back drop with cafes nearby or you can sit nearer the point where the River Minho joins the sea where there are trees behind the beach. The only downside of the beach is that even though we were there in August the sea is freezing!

Torre do Relogio de Caminha

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

The Torre do Relogio is an ancient, 13th-century Clock Tower found in one corner of Caminha's delightful town square. It is an impressive piece of masonry and, yes, the clock appears to still keep good time. The square boasts a Fountain and a decent number of cafes. It proved a wonderful spot to sit, have a coffee, relax for a while and watch the world go by.

Castro de Santa Trega

Reviewed By klsalas - Seattle, Washington

The castro on monte santa tegra consists of mostly circular low-slung foundations and a defensive wall that once was an Iron Age village. The castro is high on a mountain side overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Mino river. Galicia has perhaps the most Iron Age Celtic village ruins of any place on earth and although some are more famous, like Castro Coana in Asturias or the Castro Villadonga, Castro Santa Tegra is in beautiful condition and has the most stunning setting. A Guarda, the nearest town, is maybe 30 minutes (28km) from Tui where the AP9 and A55 hit the Portuguese border. The site has some interpretative materials and there is one reconstructed home. A bit further up the hill are more foundations and at the top is the Ermita de Santa Tegra and an archeological museum. There is also a bar/cafe. The views from the top of the mountain are truly stunning.
There was a booth where an attendant was collecting a nominal charge for visiting the castro (I think it was 1 eur.) but the top of the mountain is a religious destination and I think probably if you are visiting the chapel or museum at the top or visited at off hours there would be nobody collecting the fee.
For fans of ancient sites who are in the SW Galicia the Castro Sta. Tegra is a must see.

Poco Negro

An amazing natural lake and waterfall, surrounded by stones and a lot of green nature.
It's a great spot to swim and relax, enjoying the nature untouched.
The descending is easy, but to get back to the road is a long walk but worth definitely for the peace and nature found in the bottom
Is also not easy to park the car and it's the only way to get there.
NOTE: If you visit this place, do your best to leave it as you found it, bring back all your trash.

Monte Santa Tecla

Reviewed By Robby G C - Toronto, Canada

We headed to the top of the mountain. The road was quite easy to drive on, well protected against accidents. It wasn’t too steep, a leisurely drive.
The first stop was to visit the Santa Tecla Celtic Village. It was so beautiful, a first century B.C. Celtic village. Naturally it had been destroyed, but it still looked amazing with a back view over the sea.
Then we faced lots of monuments with crosses on top of it. It was quite intriguing!
A bit further was a structure with 4 crosses. There were a lot of stairs and it looked interesting. Sadly, there was no more parking spots.
Then we arrived at the very top of the mountain. There were a lot of vendors there, but I was fascinated with the view. We had a perfect view over the city, the bay and the sea. It was truly amazing! Truly beautiful!
There was also a church there, but it was closed. A cross was in front of it.
Nearby were huge telecommunications, a perfect spot being on the top of the mountain! Nearby was what it looked like a fortified dwelling.
I will never forget these gorgeous views from the top of this mountain. Wow! Amazing!
