Soju Sarang is one of my favorite non-BBQ Korean restaurants. Although small (and sometimes there's a wait), the waitresses are attentive and friendly and bring lots and lots of yummy banchan including some heartier and pretty unique ones. The banchan always sets the tone for a delicious meal. The special $40 sushi platter is quite a deal, with lots of sushi and sashimi. Once we asked to substitute one of the fish for flounder and they happily accommodated. The platter is a great deal in itself but also comes with a delicious and spicy fish bone soup. We've also had other entrees, all of which are good. I like this place because they have typical Korean dishes and sushi.

The restaurant is located in a strip mall,so parking is plentiful. The place is small, but nicely decorated and looks clean. Customers are mostly Korean families. We ordered the kalbi(barbecue), soon doo boo(spicy tofu soup) and jap chae( a transparent noodle dish ). Food tastes home cooked. The pickled side veggies and dishes are delicious as well. This is one of the best Korean restaurants I have tried.
I first ate here several years ago with business associates from Korea. They declared it a great Seoul restaurant relocated to Annandale. I just returned with my family and the food and experience is unchanged. Don't expect a cleaned up American-ized chain restaurant. It is authentic Seoul with the dingy interior coupled with barbecue pits connected with gas line tripping hazards. This is coupled with the very fast service, huge portions, variety of side dishes, and all that you would expect in a Seoul barbecue restaurant.
The exceptionally welcoming staff at Choong Hwa Won set it apart from other Korean restaurants that I have tried. Everyone was ready and eager to explain various menu items, and they also identified every dish they placed on the table, with some helpful hints about how to eat them. Plus the food was outstanding; we enjoyed every dish. Highly recommended!!

Annandale's best Korean BBQ, complete with a shabu shabu, endless meat plate that they prepare table-side.
How can you go wrong with all you can eat Korean BBQ at a great price? This place is tucked away on the side of a major highway in an apparently mixed Korean & Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, VA so it can be missed easily (I drove right past it on my first trip). As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by an extremely nice waitress who gave us the 411 since this was our first visit. We immediately ordered the AYCE and within seconds we had a cook top warming up at our table along with an assortment of Korean side dishes to accompany the large plate of meat we would soon devour. The meat is supposed to be eaten with the restaurant's signature sauce that they lay out for you, which was probably one of the most delicious condiments I've ever tasted.Throughout the meal, service was extremely friendly and on point from every team member that came to our table. Our waters were constantly refilled, empty dishes were promptly removed, and they even helped us cook the meat faster.I highly recommend this restaurant for not only a great Korean BBQ experience, but just a fun & gastronomically amazing experience overall.

Wanted to try a new Korean bbq when going out for Xmas Eve dinner. Bottom line: disappointed and expensive. Dinner for 4, no alcohol came to ~$250 including tip. The meat could have done with some seasoning and portions could have been bigger; trimmings were so-so. Food = average; price: poor. Would I go back: No - plenty of other choices in the area that are better.

A family gathering of delicious proportions. The speed with which we were served was impressive. Bibam bop was fresh, bulgogi was tasty, mushroom tofu soup was hot, the seafood pancake was incredible, and the spicy pork and kimchee was great. Many sides were also put on the table. The water is rice water, which was a bit unusual at first taste, but good. It was a great night! (And plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow!)

Delicious meats. So much to choose from. Had the beef tongue, shrimp, and spicy beef and octopus. All excellent. Not the fanciest place, a bit loud, but if prepared for that, no problem. Could still have a conversation with table. Went Saturday night, told 20-30 minute wait...was only 5 minutes. Friendly service/staff.

We arrived just before the rush but then again, tables continued to turn as people walked in. We were given some small appetizers and we ordered the sushi special and sake.Service was good and the sushi was fresh and I'm glad it wasn't pre-sliced as we did have to wait to get our special.I like this place as it just keeps moving along with people in and out. Great place to eat and people watch

WOW, I'm stuffed, absolutely right portions and authentic Korean food. Marcus is really nice and will explain everything you need to know; take his recommendations, he is spot on. Parking outside is crazy and the neighbors need to get over themselves. Call for reservations because this place is always packed and crowded to the max. I love sitting at mixed tables and meeting new people. Beef Combo is the bomb. Mandu is fantastic. Lerche is perfect. Great atmosphere and the servers/table clean-up crew are always buzzing around and taking care of everything. Good choice of liquor and beers. Place gets a little smokey, but it adds to the place. I will visit this place over and over, will bring many friends and co-workers!
