The restaurant is on two levels surrounded with a plethora of old bits and pieces. eg: lanterns, radios and other things. The waiter was really good, speaking quite good English and enthusiastic about the food and wine. The food was excellent, good portions and beautifully seasoned. Lovely selection of wine and port! We wnt once and then back two days later.

It is not easy to choose from the tempting menu, but don't worry; you'll get god advice from the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Besides - whatever we tried was exquisite: seafood tapas, grilled meat or lobster flambé with sepia linguini (se picture) served with excellent wines. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Some recent reviewers have complained of slow or perfunctory service. This isn't the case. The staff move at a pace appropriate to a seaside Portuguese environment.
I arrived a wee bit early for lunch on the annual celebration of the region's patron saint Sao Joao (Saint John). The menu was more limited than usual, and the price a bit higher than the standard menu (at which I peeked). However the grilled sardines could not have been fresher or better prepared.
My Portuguese is limited, to say the least. However, in contradistinction to my experience over the past couple of days in Porto, the waiter here took the trouble to speak slowly and clearly so that I had no trouble understanding what was and was not available, and that although the restaurant would not take dinner Reservations for dinner that evening, I'd have no trouble being seated if I arrived early for dinner (and he then corrected my understanding of what "early" means here).
The service was sedately paced, to be respectful of the fact that the diners were on holiday and not rushing off to return to work after lunch. The view of the river from the sidewalk Seating area was fabulous.
There was nothing all that special about what I was served. But it was most pleasant.

We did not make a reservation but came there earlier to get the space. This restaurant was so close to the residential accommodation we occupied at the next avenue. Have seen this when we arrived so we agreed to dine here in the evening.
True it was full house good; it was good we came earlier. We got only the table not by the boulevard but a bit farther already. The menu mostly sea foods looked delicious and all tempting to the palate. We ordered the assorted seafood and fish fillet with vegetable salad. Wine from this region is superb.

Adega da Vila

Very Important. It is necessary to reserve a table every day in advance. The cellar of the villa is a small but cozy restaurant, where you can find the best of Portuguese cuisine, good meat, good sausage, good seafood, good cheese and fine wines. The fact that it allows a small family-type care near where guests feel almost at home. The Adega da Vila's decor is very typical wine honors the traditions and Portuguese.

My husband has been raving about their set lunch for some time. There are many tourist restaurants in Vila do Conde to cater to your expectations of Portuguese food, in fairness some of them very good. Praça Vehla are doing something different: Portuguese cuisine with a twist, bringing a delicacy and subtlety not always found in the average restaurant. Generous portions but not off puttingly huge. The house starters are of a familiar type but a cut above. Hand carved presunto, herbed queijo fresco, and (in a nation which often serves the same frozen ones home and away) the best home made bacalhau croquettes we've ever eaten, light, fluffy, delicately crisp in the outside, creamy and herbed on the inside. My accurately described 'hunk' of veal was beautifully peppered and caramelised on the outside, rare on the inside, the skinless take on 'bread sausage' side delicately flavoured. My husband's mini lamb rack was equally delicious. The puddings were new takes on traditional Portuguese dishes - the egg semi freddo was a light meringuey ice with not to many bolacha and a lovely sweet egg custard, the lemon tarte a light cheesecake with berries. There is a carefully chosen wine list. The decor is lovely. We sat outside in the square under fairy lights suspended from trees. Immense care is taken with everything including the table clothes and embroidered napkins. The service, just as much as the food, was of the standard normally found in high class London restaurants. This is a family business and clearly has a loyal local clientele, but welcoming to visitors. Well worth diverting from the tourist track for. But above all these deserve to be congratulated for doing something a little different with traditional Portuguese menu, which is why I am sure we will go back time after time.

We visited at lunchtime at the end of a week in the area. Refreshing change, seemingly very professional at first - we ordered, had a few nibbles then waited 40 minutes for our food.
Lots of waiting staff and not enough chefs/cooks.
The positive side is that it is a nice space and if you have a window seat you have a view of the river.

This seafood restaurant was recommended by our hotel host. It is a short drive from the Casa Mindela Guesthouse (near Porto airport) to the little village of Vilo do Conde, on the west coast, north of Porto. We are Canadian so we don't mind eating earlier than Europeans, and this meant that we arrived early and got one of the tables beside the window. The owner Patricia, spoke perfect English and was very helpful with the menu, and wine list. We enjoyed a mixed seafood platter, fresh catch of the day, lightly grilled to perfection. The strawberry pavlova for dessert was exquisite. All of this followed by an amazing sunset view (see picture).
Arrive at 7:00 pm opening or make Reservations to get best table.

They keep bringing starters you haven't ordered which are charged for. The pork came raw which they acknowledged but when it came out again it was so over cooked had trouble chewing it. They made no concession on the bill. With all the lovely friendly restaurants in vila do conde give this one a miss.
