We went here based on Tripadvisor reviews. First impression was that this was one of the many pizerias in tourist town. The menu was not realy impressive. Nothing special for the kids like hamburger or nuggets.
But once the food arrived it turned to be quite good. Starters where exellent, main course was good. Nothing for vegetariabs though. The pizza was very good, one of the kids thought this was the best pizza in 2 wks time.
Nice desert too. It was fully booked with French customers, local and tourists. The only 2 waiters did their best to keep up, but it was unavoidable we had to wait a bit long for desert and the bill.
Friendky staff.
Simple restaurant, but where happy we went here. Reservations recommended.

Our friends from Paris, took us to this restaurant that we did not noticed at first as it is just behind the sea front but hidden .
Excellent surprise, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and seated in a very nice quiet location.
Everyone said it was the best ever here in Valras.
Our main courses were well prepared nice and hot we tasted the arrancini, the polpette, real typical Sicilian Foods, incredible pizzas.
The owner recommended a nice bottle of wine which was an excellent choice for our meals. We did enjoy the dessert, wonderful Tiramisu.
A very enjoyable visit topped with excellent food and ambiance.

Was looking for lunch in the area and remembered that this place was mentioned by friends as being very good. How right they were as the food and ambiance first class. My fillet of Sea Bream was excellently prepared and cooked. Olivier is a superb front of house/waiter and Evelyne is a wonderful chef. So good that we returned for dinner the next evening on our last night. Save this place for an occasion and do not be put off by the surrounding area.

La Marmite du Pecheur

We discovered this restaurant last year, when on holiday in Valras. We had loved it so much last year, we had returned a second time and have posted an enthusiastic review too. So no wonder this was the first restaurant we booked on our return to Valras this August.
We had been looking forward to taking our family there and booked a table for seven - four adults and three children (6-8). We had booked for 19:30 and we arrived in good time. We were seated at good table by the window. As we'd arrived just as the restaurant was opening, only a handful of tables were occupied. Still, it took over 10 minutes before someone arrived with the menu - not a good start - and even longer before we were able to order some drinks. A full half an hour had passed by the time our food order was taken. By then (8pm), the place was filling up quickly.
We had not paid attention to the kids menu last year because our son really loves fish and we had ordered a la carte for him. However, the other two children did not care for fish and had to go with the kids menu which only gave a choice between a burger steak (burger without the bun) and chips or chicken nuggets and chips. Both kiddies opted for the nuggets and for our son we ordered salmon a la carte. I asked if it would be possible for my son's food to be brought to the table together with the other to kids' meals and that the kids should be given priority and was assured that would happen.
The rest of us opted for the fixed menus. Can't remember exactly what everyone had, I for one, went with the 24 euros one: starter + main course + desert. The point is that our starters arrived around 8:30pm. We asked if the kids' food was coming and we were assured it was. It felt very strange to be sitting there with plates full of food while the kids were staring into their empty apple juice glasses. We eventually started to eat and I did feed the boys with bits of gesiers from my salad. The staff were scarce on the restaurant floor and it took a while before we were able to ask anyone if the kids' food was coming. We were assured it was. Around 8:50pm my son's salmon arrived at the table and he started eating. It was another 15 minutes or so before the damned nuggets and fries arrived. I was actually horrified when I helped my nephew cut his nuggets: they looked grey and spongy inside. I mean, nuggets don't have the reputation of being healthy or anything of the sort but I have seen much better quality before. It was horrific and not something I would consider letting my child eat.
I will not comment on the quality of the food served to us adults or to my son, that was as good as last year. However, it is a right shame for a place that serves food of good quality and is clearly sought by food lovers to offer such poor choice and quality to children! I could not sit there enjoying my lovely food while feeding the children something that looked like a dishwashing sponge covered in greasy fried batter. And it was priced at 8.90 euros as it came with a schtroumf shaped ice-cream. Our son got the ice-cream too and because he had been eating a la carte, we got charged 5.50 for the ice-cream. Had we known, we would have ordered him one of the Deserts on the a la carte menu rather than have him eat that pre-packed ice-cream. We just thought it would be nice to let him have what his cousins had.
To cut a long story short - and it was a long painful night with long periods waiting for food to arrive - we eventually took the kids out of the restaurant at 10:30pm while my husband and my father-in-law waited for the bill. There were issues with that too as not only were we charged 5.5 euros for that ice-cream for my son but they had added a third bottle of house wine to the bill. We had only ordered two, since we had had sangria for starters. One would have thought that there would be an apology for the mess-up with the children's food or anything but NO, no apology was offered.
Funny thing was, the person who took our order was actually the owner's mother. While taking the kids to the toilet I saw Ludo was working in the kitchen that night and overheard him telling the lady who had taken our orders "Mother, I told you before, the kids menus go with the starters. You didn't write them down with the starters." This was before the food eventually arrived and I really expected an apology or something but nothing was said. For the record, my family are French and I am proficient in the language and both the kids and I heard what was being said in the kitchen - one has to wait by the kitchen when queuing for the toilets.
So, would we be going back? Hell no! We had been so looking forward to spending a nice evening with our family and it was completely ruined by the very long wait, by having our food served while the children had to wait for so long for theirs, by the quality - or lack of! - of the children's menu, by the wait for the bill and the errors on the bill, by the lack of graciousness in failing to at least apologise (an apology can go a long way, even when it's not heartfelt).
I would suggest to the owners to research other kids' menus in Valras. For example, a less pretentious restaurant, Le Charmy, offers a choice of: burger without the bun and fries, chicken nuggets and fries, pizza or moules & frites + drink (apple juice included) + ice-cream or chocolate tart for 7.90 Euros.

We were in beautiful Valras Plage on 02/11/2012. Having read the good reviews we tought it would be a good idea to have lunch in La marine. When we arrived the place was almost empty and half the room was in the indian summer sun and the other half was in the shade.
We set down on a table in the sun facing the sea and waited for the waiter.
When he arrived we asked the menu and we were told that he would not serve on that table. In fact he told us that none of the tables in the sun would be served and that we had to sit on one of the tables in the shade. We tried to convince him otherwise but no matter how we argued, we had to move or no lunch. So, we chose no lunch and went to a restaurant 100 m away where we had a good lunch .... in the sun.

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening after having read some good reviews but unfortunately, we were less than impressed. The restaurant was 75% full, mainly with locals, which we thought would be a good sign however, when our food arrived it was served on cold plates, one of our wine glasses had a cobweb in it and, worst of all, the waitress, who had long hair, kept messing with this between serving dishes, hardly hygienic! The Coteaux de Languedoc however was excellent.

My wife and I with our two young children were going to try the posh looking place next door until the told us they weren't open for a few more minutes.
I only just noticed this ceperie as we walked past as it is somewhat unassuming. The place does what is says on the tin. We had friendly, quick service and the food was simple and well made.
A main and desert for the four of us, with drinks was a little over E60, so much cheaper than much of the rubbish we had stumbled upon earlier in our holiday.
After two weeks down here it was a pleasure to eat somewhere so pleasant. It's just a shame we found it on our last night here!
At least my girls cleared their plates.
Only haven't given it 5* because it isn't fine dining, but it did hit the spot for us this evening.

We had spotted this funky-looking place while walking around the town and decided to book a table for the evening of the 14th July before the fireworks. We were glad we got a chance to sample the delicious food including local specialties and friendly service. The children's menu was the best around with the seafood liguini a big hit with our 11-year old. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food and service in pleasant surroundings.

We first visited this restaurant in January and enjoyed it immensely. We returned in April and the food was very good.
However the restaurant was unbearably hot. We were sat in a conservatory and it was sunny. They have no air conditioning which for the south of France is crazy. They haven't even got ceiling fans. I requested that they open some windows or the door on three occasions. Nothing happened.
Everyone who arrived refused to sit near the front of the restaurant because it was too hot. This needs to be addressed soon or customers won't return. I would not want to go there in summer. This is a shame because we had a vey nice plate of tapas followed by a prawn curry.
