Best location, fantastic staff

Reviewed By PatrikL245

The location is the best among all hotels in Vaasa. The main shopping centre is in the same building. The main square and all the restaurants are also right around the hotel. I was given one of the refurbished rooms, which was clean, modern and overall one of the best rooms i have stayed in any hotel in Vaasa. The only negative thing in the room were the very cold floors. Pillows were kinda hard and felt like they were at the end of their life cycle too. The staff at the reception were extremely friendly! One of the friendliest receptions I have ever received in Finland. They gave me my room at 1.30 pm even though the check in time is at 3. Pm. I want to thank them for doing that without me even asking for it. The breakfast was alright, nothing special, but overall better than the breakfast at Scandic Vaasa for example. In case you are into fitnes, they have a gym and offer a free access to one of the best gyms in town which is 200m away from the hotel!

Great breakfast and very nice staff

Reviewed By Ricardo_lexington

This is an old hotel with a quirky interior and kind of old character. I think it's great that they haven't tried to modernize but instead stayed true to the original design. Everything is in good shape, the bed was great, and everything was clean. Spent the evening in the bar. Their scrimp sandwich is epic. The breakfast was amazing. One of the best I've seen. What really made our stay was the really nice staff. Everyone was really friendly and attentive. Great job!

Great place to stay

Reviewed By taijakk

Overall a great experience. Good breakfast, clean room, everything very close and helpful service. The room could be updated. The furnitures were quite old. It was a place where we would definitely stay again! We loved having a sauna in our room and still the temperature didnt get too warm.

Worst experience

Everything that could go wrong went wrong. We were checking-in in time but they made us wait for the room which was still in cleaning. Cleaning would go on for I don't know how long, but we got another room that was ready (I don't know why we didn't get that one in the first place). The room was a weird double room made by joining two rooms together. It had no dining table for example. Tablet in the room was not working so I had to call a premium hotel number for room service. Bathrobes were the wrong size and quantity. Spa tickets are only included for one day even if you stay for multiple nights. This is shown only in a very small font and not in the first page of the room on the hotel's website. Slippers are not included in the room and are sold for 5 € a pair. There was loud banging noise from upstairs at night. Vaasa itself was very grey at winter and all amenities were closed or reduced because of winter time and on weekends. I wouldn't recommend for anyone as it wasn't even cheap. Never again.

Omena Hotel Vaasa

A no frills place for sleeping

Reviewed By Carina H

If you're not looking for the hotel experience with a gym, a bar, lavish breakfast and lots of extra services, but just need a good place to sleep, this is the place for you. The hotel has no staff at all, you get a key code and your room number in an email 24 hours prior to your stay and that's how you access the hotel and your room. The room is equipped with a microwave oven, a small fridge and a water boiler for you to use if you chose to buy your own food and eat in your room. There is a table and four chairs as well. The room is spacious for 1-2 people, I can imagine it being a little small for 3-4 people. There are two beds and a two seated sofa that can be turned into a bed. There's also an open closet at the end of the beds, which divides the room into two. The bathroom is a little on the small side and not at all convenient for disabled people, since there's a 20 cm high step to get into the bathroom. I would've liked the bathroom to be a little bit bigger, there wasn't that much room to move around in it. It reminded me more of the bathroom of one of the luxury cabins on the cruise ships that go between Finland and Sweden than a hotel bathroom. The outdoor temperature was around 26-30 degrees Celsius while I was there and even though the room had AC, there was no way for me to control it. The vent was on the wall towards the "kitchen area" and since the beds were hidden away behind the closet, the cooling effect never found its way to the beds. The hotel is located near the train station at the end of the shopping streak and there is plenty of parking to chose from, on the street and in the parking garage right across the street, by the train station. It does cost money to park, since the hotel doesn't have any parking of its own. One negative thing I found was that there were no Swedish tv channels in the hotel. Vaasa is bilingual, the natives speak both Finnish and Swedish in Ostrobothnia and I did expect some Swedish tv channels in the hotel, especially since Vaasa is so close to Sweden. If you just need a reasonably priced place to stay, this is your hotel.
