Great food and service in The Curry Room

Reviewed By MChipps

From the welcome at the door to the service in The Curry Room, the team at The Rubén’s were friendly and efficient. We ate in The Curry Room and the food was first class. We had a mix of 6 main courses all of which were excellent and the origins of all courses and dishes were eloquently explained by the maitre d’. The chef came to chat with us and share his cooking techniques and knowledge. We also had a lengthy discussion about cricket!! A great night and a highly recommended venue. Thank you to everyone at The Rubens!!

Disappointed

Reviewed By Ronnie S

I had always wanted to stay in this hotel. On 7th June 2022 my wife and I finally managed to get through to Edinburgh and stayed here. I was to say the least very disappointed. We had no towels in our bed room, my wife commented on this in the morning to be told “it’s not our fault, the towel supplier have left us short”…really. I’m sure if we had been staying more than 1 night towels would have been supplied. The room was very modern but overall given the price was underwhelmed by the experience.

Fantastic Young Family Break

Reviewed By kegaline1

We stayed here for 2 nights - myself, my partner, our young baby and our 3.5 year old - and we had the best time. We stayed in a family room in the main hotel that had a separate space for bunk beds which our 3 year old loved. There were so many activities. The massive play area with the fort, bouncy pillows, maze and crazy golf was fab. It’s a bit of a walk but an easy walk and buggy friendly. The food in the Italian restaurant that we ate in both nights was great, the kids menu was a wee bit limited though. The breakfast buffet had a huge selection. Check out was at 11am so it wasn’t too much of a rush to get out. The staff were all really friendly and attentive. The whole stay was summaries by our 3 year old who said “I just loved all of it”

Perfect- see if you can get a permit from reception before paying for car park!

Reviewed By X7975XSmichaell

Get a parking permit from the hotel before paying! For the price and location, this was exceptional. Even the breakfast was top notch. I wish I had read the comments about parking as you can get a day pass from the hotel for £2 (Vs £12 for 24 hr via Ringo). However that didn’t spoil things, the room was lovely, we didn’t have a sea view but didn’t expect it given the price and we only really needed some there to rest our heads. The bed/mattress/duvet were on par with 5-star hotels I’ve stayed in. Will definitely come here again! For the best deals they do recommend contacting the hotel directly.

Fabulous One-Night Stay, Too Short

Reviewed By Aslanschild2

Due to scheduling conflicts, we checked in very late, between 10 and 11 p.m., and were greeted by the nicest front desk person, a lovely young lady whose name I unfortunately can't recall now. (I'm still trying.) She had all kinds of great advice for things to do the next day, and we followed it to a "T." She was exactly right, and her advice added to our trip immensely. Of note, she recommended Castlewellan Park and Tollymore Forest Park, both of which turned out to be real gems on our mostly unplanned itinerary. She also assigned us a spectacular room with an ocean view, which was not expected, and we were likewise delighted by the delicious included breakfast buffet the next day. This was our first night ever in Ireland, up from Dublin airport. Far from having any service issues, everyone on staff whom we met was friendly, courteous, and went out of their way to be helpful. But I wish I remembered our check-in girl's name. Her husband belongs to the golf club there. If anyone there who may read this can figure out who she is, please give her our warmest greetings and deepest thanks. She may remember us. We were there on a C. S. Lewis "pilgrimage" of sorts, and I shared with her that I wrote the only published index to his writings.

230+ person wedding - delivered to perfection

Reviewed By Yoel J

We got married at The Mere in early June and everything the hotel did to help with the day was just fantastic from start to finish. There were over 230 people at the wedding, with over half the guests staying at the hotel for multiple days (many with specific logistical or religious requirements) - but nothing seemed to phase the team at The Mere. Special mention to Katie in events who helped ensure no detail was left unturned for our big day. Simon and Adam in operations both extremely professional and made sure everything ran swimmingly. Not to forget the amazing staff at the front desk (particularly Lauren and Phil), the club lounge and the spa - all who went out their way to accommodate our wedding party. Aside from the wedding, the rooms are all spacious, modern and clean, a good breakfast and the spa is lovely. If only we could do it all again!

Honeymoon trip

Reviewed By 788dhjekin

We stayed for 4 nights to celebrate our pre honeymoon and emailed ahead to ask for an upgrade . We was advised unfortunately there were no other rooms available but they had put down some rose petals and received a complimentary drink which made it felt special. So well done for taking down note. Lovely period hotel with a gorgeous outdoor pool area and close to everything. Staff are friendly, but our neighbors woke us at 2am with a loud tele so as he was ignoring our knock s ,I called to reception to ask for help to which they called but no answer . Person from night reception then went out of his way to come up and speak with tele person which solved the loud tele, so thank u very much. Food is excellent!! As well as the breakfast, suberp .Very good hotel , friendly staff, excellent pool area and good food only downside is the overdue bed , our stay was ruined somewhat with the lumpy uncomfortable bed so could not sleep much. Please look to get a new bed in room 222 and maybe could do with an decor update throughout, but apart from that great facilities, food and friendly staff

Golf and Spa break

Reviewed By 2464

We stayed in the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel for one night for a joint 30th birthday couples trip away. Spa~ Us girls started off with coffees in the main bar and spent the first day at the resort Forum Spa. We did have a slight issue with our booking but it was sorted quickly and without a problem, staff in the spa very helpful. I booked a spa package with Forum massage which was a full body massage and it was very good. the spa reception was busy but during our time in the relaxation rooms and pool areas it was quiet and relaxing. I really liked the private ladies only spa area. I also had the spa buffet lunch in the cafe which consisted of a range of salads, chicken, salmon and desserts drinks were not included though but we had access to drinks in the spa. Golf~ The boys had booked packages to play the Twenty Ten golf course and really enjoyed it, they especially liked the engraved bag tag and they enjoyed the chance to win a round of gold / membership. Dinner~ In the evening we went for buffet dinner at The Olive Tree and I can say even though there wasn’t a huge selection, it was one of the best tasting buffets I’ve been to. It was all hot and seasoned well. The service was great, plates being cleared straight away and food being refilled quickly. The roast section being my favourite. We then had drinks over in the bar and listened to the pianist which was enjoyable. The bar staff did get our drinks wrong but it was quickly sorted. Room~ The only reason I have not given this hotel a 5 rating is due to the rooms. We had standard rooms but I’ve stayed in better 4 star hotels. The care and attention is not 5 star. The shower had clumps of black hair, the sink was cracked, there wasn’t any body wash I just had 2 shampoos, I’d expect a better supply of toiletries. No bottles of water?! Ive stayed at many 4 stars and had glass bottle water in the room as standard. Our 2nd room had a mini fridge that did not open and they didn’t have an ice bucket. Couldn’t see a pillow menu either. We did have a great view out the front towards the bridge though and it was quiet. Breakfast~ Again we had the buffet breakfast in the Olive Tree restaurant. Again great quality food on offer and we really enjoyed it. Good selection of pastries and juices / hot drinks. Adventure Golf~ We played the 18 holes of adventure golf and loved it! Definitely a must do if staying, it was good fun and very quiet. Car parking~ We paid £8.50 x 2 for 24 hours parking as we had 2 cars. I’d understand paying for parking if in the centre of a big city but I can’t understand the charge for hotel guests to park, day guests yes I can understand. All in all it was a wonderful stay and we would return.

Fantastic as long as you’re not eating

Reviewed By Resort37494171753

The rooms are good. Simple, spacious, large bathrooms. SOOO warm even when the heating is off but that can’t be helped. The beds are really comfy too. The facilities are amazing. But… The food is problematic. I’ve stayed twice some months apart and both times they can’t get their head around dietary requirements. If you pre-order the meal, they’re confused on the day. If you don’t pre-order and it’s buffet, literally nothing is labelled and there is no thought given to whether there is enough for varied requirements (there isn’t). If you pre-order snacks for your meeting breaks, no dietary requirements are catered for. And the food that comes is just okay ish. In this day and age and at these prices, you expect far more. So come for the rooms, the grounds and the facilities…. But not the food.
