We were staying at the hotel with a meal included in our stay, we opted for mushroom soup and ham hock terrine to start... Both were fantastic, for mains we both had beef with red wine ju which was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully, the chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding topped off a first class meal.

It must be difficult running somewhere like this and I hope the proprietor is able to make a success of it. The sausage sandwich was tasty but the "cappucino" was too hot and too milky. Needs more practice. Prices are good but it would help if more locals ate there rather than buying from the traditional sandwich van.

As we are able to walk from our home we gave it a try , the staff are really pleasant , the prices are right and the food was really good home cooked food the only thing ive eaten here that I would not recommend are the pies the chef is not a pastry chef but the belly pork and the lamb cutlets were really good as was everything else Iâve eaten here , try the mussels they are exceptional

Keep well away from this place. Camped for three nights. These owners are happy to accept large groups playing Lound music until the early hours, also no concerns with them smoking dope, shouting and using abusive language towards my family . Electric hook up constantly going off so don't expect that to work either. Complaints made to owners that made no difference. Please think twice before going here.

Went to the Bay Horse for lunch. Good home cooked food, huge portions and reasonably priced. The desserts are lovely. Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere.

Chicken fajitas - very tasty and the chips are to die for. Chicken terriaki noodles - too many onions and far too much sauce - the noodles were swimming in sauce rather than being coated with it. Toad on the hole - tough sausages, overcooked with similarly overcooked Yorkshire pud - crispy and tough to eat. Overall we wouldn't rush back.

Went with a group of ten for lunch not the best service or food. Think young waitress maybe new definitely needs more training drinks order taken and arrived. Orders for meal how at 12-15 they have one portion of corned beef pie mystery. Meals seen to take a long time when they arrive nicely presented unfortunately I choose wrong fish over cooked and quite greasy. Most of group enjoyed, bill we had to have looked at as was wrong. Not sure would return.

I went here with my family and we had a great range of food all meals were really great. The service was also excellent. This is a really great place to go. The range of beers is great unfortunately I was driving so unable to partake

Lovely village location tastefully done traditional country pub with more basis on food not drink. Small but perfect menu obviously all homemade and fresh however slightly over priced for example simple fish and chips £15.00 and I think cheapest on menu upto £28 for fillet steak

Excellent soundtrack to match the top quality food. As a Bishop Auckland resident, I'm surprised to find somewhere I've never been thats so good. But I was very impressed on my first visit today. In Bondgate.Quirky and small on the outside, it has loads more to offer than spuds & even they are good. Burgers, dogs, wraps, and my own favourite burritos. Cosy inside, interesting decor, calm and relaxing ambiance with great music from the 60s and 70s - think rock, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles etc. Even has a beer garden.I'll call again.Alatbish2, thanks for great review. Super glad you enjoyed the place. We have big plans for its future . Hope to see you again soon.
