Iruna

Reviewed By dogeyedoctor - Plainview, New York

We always stop in restaurant after visiting Logroño and the Rioja area. The place is very family oriented. The food is just fantastic. There is an amazing selection of recently sourced vegetable dishes: cardoons (our favorite), beans (pochos), peas, asparagus etc. We had a delicate salad with partridge (just delicious) as well as a sampling of tripe, lamb, kidneys al jerez, and other meat options. The wine is great and the service just delightful. We highly recomend this restaurant if you are ever in the area of Tudela. Worth a stop for sure.

Restaurant 33 has a very special vegetable cuisine. It is not cheap, 44 euro's per person for seven vegetable dishes, but you will love it. The owner can do beter by training his staf to be a bit more friendly to the guests. In that way he can make the experience perfect.

During my time in Tudela, I had many opportunities to eat at Trinquete. My first time was like coming home to visit family. Chef Santi, his wife Elena and their daughter were so welcoming and waited on me hand and foot. Lunch was simply elegant - the freshest produce I've ever eaten and a cured angus carpaccio with sheep's milk from Navarra. When I tell you that I was blown away by a head of lettuce, you'll probably laugh - until you order the "cohollos" lettuce salad and are left speechless. Each plate is paired with a specific olive oil from Artajo, a Navarran olive orchard you can drive to and visit for a tasting after lunch. (and trust me, you'll want to do that, the produce makes the olive oil sing!) My favorite dish of all is a tie between the tomato asado (fire roasted in their "huerto" garden/farm) which is stuffed with a small local green pepper also cooked in the same way before they're both grilled a la plancha. The other favorite vegetable dish is the spring onion that is steamed then also grilled until the sugars form a perfect caramel on both sides. If you didn't know it was an onion before you ate it, you'd think you were eating dessert. There are numerous fantastic fish and meat dishes as well, and I could go on about them all from their bacalao taco (not an actual taco, just the same word) to their timbal with heirloom hen eggs (with the most red yolks that have the texture of thick, luxurious molten gold). Of course during the Fall and Winter, you might be more inclined to try the cochnillo (pork) or any of their lamb braises. SO good, and there are many signs nearby on all the endearing one way streets to make sure you find your way. Don't make Tudela a 1hr pit stop, make it at least a full day without a time limit and enjoy a full tasting menu (which is very reasonably priced at about 40 Euro, for all SEVEN plates plus dessert). They really do pick their produce every morning from the garden, as I saw them dropping it off each morning before service. Just unreal. Tomatoes that will change your life with service to match. I found it in the Conde Nast Traveler magazine from April 2015, by Stephen Orr. What a great tip!

Meson Julian

Reviewed By conalgregorymw - York, United Kingdom

Tucked away in the small streets of Tudela lies the small Meson Julian restaurant. It weirdly says it opens at 2110 but no one answers until 2130 or later! The wait is worthwhile with friendly service and some stunning food. Enjoy their extensive fish range including meaty octopus, cod with tomato, scallops, onion and green peppers and, of course, stylish hake on potato.
Keep some space for the desserts, notably Russian chocolate (served on slate: a thin mille-feuille), lemon sorbet (really zesty gazpacho) and 'cheesecake' (really thick creme brulee with fruits of the forest coulis)
A modestly priced wine list has some stars of Spain. Look for the spicy Somantano Gewurztraminer/Chardonnay and Jose Pariente's stylish Rueda Verdejo 2012

The Bar Jose Luis offers a menu of snacks and extensive and elaborate pots, with classics like egg, fajico, croquettes, skewers, etc ... And other seasonal products as with vegetables or mushrooms. We are on Wall Street, in the center of Tudela (Navarra).

Reviewed By montparnassy - Dublin, Ireland

The owner of Hotel Santa Maria thought we might like this tapas bar in the centre of Tudela. We found the bar, a very modern place which was very busy. We sat at the bar and a local kindly recommended a few suggestions which we might have missed otherwise. One, a strip of pancetta with a strip of courgette on top, followed by a prawn and some cheese, rolled up, breadcrumbed and fried was truly delicious..Filo pastry base with mushroom and prawn paste topped with filo and shredded onion, tempura fried strips of vegetables with honey and balsamic, Spanish tortilla sliced in two and filled with a Russian type salad..The food was so good that we delayed leaving town to have lunch again the next day!!
