Things to do in Torres del Paine

This hotel is immaculate, warm, welcoming with incredible decor and gourmet food. Right on the Serrano River, each room has a floor to ceiling window so you can watch the sunset. The lounge chairs on the deck allow for sipping cocktails or just enjoying the beauty of nature while you gaze upon the distant Torres del Paine terrain. The decor, with reclaimed heavy doors, warm lamps, and a gateway to this massive natural playground is run by Carolina, an incredible host for our adventure. Well worth the stay .

My wife and I finished our W Trek and stayed at this location for 2 evenings and without a doubt, this location is one of the most beautiful, down-to-earth and idyllic places I've ever stayed. In our worldly travels we have purposefully avoided major brand hotels or "inclusive" resorts as they isolate you from the beauty and realism of the place you're visiting...but not this place! The Rio Serrano and the backdrop of the mountains were like a watercolor painting, and the accommodations included separate carriage-style houses with wood-burning stoves, roaming cattle and amenities that really feed the soul. The host was exceptional and kind. He will build you a fire, fix a flat tire and cook you a BBQ dinner with a smile and kindness that would put hospitality majors to shame. Forget the Torres Lodge and overpriced accommodations with lackluster feeling and vibe, this place blows it out of the water. My only regret was having to leave, heck, the first thing my wife and I did upon leaving was googling "property for sale" and "how can a foreigner buy land in Rio Serrano." THAT's how cool this place was! 6/5 STARS!

The hotel is very nice, the room was big and comfortable and I liked the design a lot. The host is a very nice person, friendly and patient and the food was delicious. I had a feeling I was part of the family and I could ask for everything I need and want. One of the best (if not the best) places I have ever stayed!!! Thank you, Juan! <3

We loved our stay at this hostel. The owners are really friendly and do everything they can to keep their guests happy. The owners really made our stay here! My husband and I stayed in the twin room (2 twin beds) and were comfortable there. Most of the other rooms looked like they had bunk beds, but all had an ensuite bathroom. All the other visitors were families or groups. There is a big common room with a wood stove that's cozy to hang out in and read after a long day of hiking. This place is about an hour's drive from the Laguna Amarga entrance of the Torres del Paine park, so it's about the halfway point form Puerto Natales. There are no gas stations however, or major supermarkets, so we ended up having to drive to Puerto Natales anyway. A couple hotels serve dinner but I'm not sure if they do so every night. We stayed for New Years and ate at one of the hotels in the town but returned to Mate Amargo to cheers with the other families. Highly recommend this hostel!

Refugio Vista al Paine is a very simple accommodation in Villa Rio Serrano which is located on the edge of the national park. There is only a bed in the room and to get to the bathroom we have to cross the hall. Very bizarre! It is very nice that from our bed we have a direct view of the characteristic mountain peaks of Torres del Paine. Unfortunately today there is quite a lot of cloudiness so that a piece of mountain is always hidden. Too bad, hopefully we'll have better luck tomorrow! After unloading our luggage, we drive into Torres del Paine National Park (25,000 Chilean Peso per person for three days of access) and take a ride to Lago Gray hotel, from where a short walking path runs along the lake.
