Australian Army Infantry Museum

Reviewed By PadreJose - New South Wales

I work in museums but rarely visit museums in regional towns as I find most to be quite tedious. I had intended to take in the infantry museum for some time as it is close to where I attended high school Cadet Corps training camps in the 1960s. I was very impressed with the scale and quality of the museum. It's exhibits are beautifully curated and displayed. They carry a very lucid, emotional and engaging account of Australian involvement in infantry warfare since the 1880s. Well worth a visit.

Singleton Sundial

The Sundial is next to a nice park, a decent shopping mall and a fitness gym. It is THE sundial and that's what it is. If you set your expectation right, you won't be disappointed. Just don't expect anything fancy.

Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre

Reviewed By John B - Singleton, Australia

First, parking is adequate and provides for caravans and larger vehicles.
Situated in a park on the southern highway entry into Singleton, this is a new and presentable place for a visitors' information centre.
But where can visitors obtain food and refreshments?
A couple of decades back, when this place was designed, there was a proposal for an attached cafe.
This has seemingly been lost.
However, even in its current format, good local information is available as well as an opportunity to stretch one's legs in Townhead Park

Singleton Historical Society & Museum Inc

Reviewed By Charles V - Perth, Australia

Singleton is an historical town of around 20,000 inhabitants nestled within the bends of the Hunter River in the Hunter Valley NSW. The town area has a very long history of both Aboriginal and European settlement. As you would expect the little museum in the lovely Burdekin Park, George St Singleton is home to many interesting artifacts that chronologically represent the towns history as an agricultural, dairy farming, coal mining and wine producing centre. I enjoyed browsing through the history of the pioneers and towns people and the very informed and friendly staff just added to an interesting hour or so spent there.

The Convent is set in spacious Gardens with buildings dating from the 1870s, including the magnificent Sisters' Chapel which is particularly suited to weddings and Concerts.

An interesting space to have a concert but it was a lovely choice. The four piece Sydney Consort was accompanied by a talented vocal artist and the concert spanned a range of folk songs, traditional jigs and longer compositions.
A bit chilly inside but we were advised this was the case and to rug up.
Nice afternoon tea provided too

Burdekin Park

Reviewed By Dorrigogirl - Dorrigo

Sadly this once beautiful park has been overrun by flying foxes that have absolutely destroyed the park to the extent that the local Council have now erected a fence around the perimeter of the fence to keep people out. It is no disappointing that the Council thinks it does not have the means to eradicate the flying foxes in the town, but other areas, such as the Botanical Gardens in Sydney managed to move the flying foxes on once they had taken up residence in the trees there.
