Lowe Wines

I've only ever wanted to be a winemaker. I've been doing it now for 35 years - that's a good thing!I still love it. It's what gets me up in the morning, puts a smile on my face and provides the drive to keep doing it better and better.I can't separate any one part of winemaking over any other – it's the diversity of the activities from being on the tractor, amongst the vines, harvest, winemaking, bottling & packaging, marketing, selling and telling the story of Australian, NSW, Mudgee, Lowe, Louee and Tinja Wines that are all part of what I do.I want to take these grapes that I grow, get them in a bottle with as little intervention as possible and get them to you with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of excellence. Making great wine in a good year from lovely vineyards is easy. There are also years where it's tough for all in the industry, and as an organic grower and maker we have few weapons; this is when age and experience also helps. The pinnacle is good wine. I don't want to tell you that it's hand crafted or boutique produced or estate bottled, while it is all those things it is more important to me that it is honest and free of jargon and allowed to be - wine! Wine to be shared with friends and food and enjoyed not worshipped.I also love telling and teaching about wine. That's one of the reasons you're likely to see me at our Cellar Door. It's why I've started the Lowe Wine club to ensure our enthusiasts get our rare and museum releases along with the ‘Lowedown' three times a year.Drop in, drop me a line, enjoy a drop. David Lowe

We had a great time here
We started with tasting some really good wines. David and Alex tag teamed and were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the 'Jodie' and Nullo Mountain range to name a couple - although we bought much more!
Wine tasting was followed by a delicious food platter and we ate while sitting outside in the garden overlooking the vineyard. A spectacular way to spend lunchtime!
Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back.

We dropped into this winery on a warmish summer's day. Inside a tin shed, we found some wine tasting. Once we walked in, the staff were positive and friendly. Unfortunately the positives stop here. The small space in the tasting room meant it got crowded quite easily and because of this, temperatures in the room were almost unbearable on the sunny day we were there. I would avoid going here on any days over 28 degrees. After sampling a few wines, we weren't a fan of the taste, like many others, who also walked out with us empty handed. Maybe they are in their early days, but this winery still has some work to do to keep clients happy and ensure their wine is on par with nearby wineries.

The Drip Gorge

Reviewed By Emanpee - Sydney, Australia

A slightly different landscape with stunning sandstone walls along the majority of walking path to the main area where water trickles through the rock and creates a small stream flowing into the Goulburn River. While we were there on a hot and dry day, there had been rain a week before and there was a reasonable flow. If going immediately after heavy rain, suspect could get a drenching along some parts of the track. Carpark is approximately 45 minute drive from Mudgee and is well signposted about 10km past Ulan mining area. Small picnic ground with tables and pit toilet and information signs make everything easy once there. Is an undulating walk of around 30 minutes over 1.4km to 'drip face' with some interesting rock formations along the way. No animal sightings through the middle of a hot day but attractive bird life. Some interesting national park information signs at regular intervals. Worth visiting.

This winery was chosen because it offered platters and was open 7 days a week. We sampled some wines, the dessert wine is excellent, then enjoyed a gorgeous ploughmans platter sat on the Terrace enjoying the views. The staff were really friendly, big shout out to the young girl who was working, sorry didn't get your name. Lovely, informative and very welcoming. Would go again, and again and again.

Mudgee Honey Haven

The Mudgee Honey Haven is one of Mudgee's premier tourist attractions with a range of experiences for the whole family. With the widest selection of honeys available you can taste trial each variety of honey before you decide on your favourites. Even the kids get to have a good time with a game of putt putt on our new 18 hole course. They'll also love watching the bees hard at work through a special glass window which shows a cross section of a real working bee hive. There's a wide selection of gifts, crafts and pottery and local Mudgee produce for which the region is well known. If wine tasting is more your style, sample some of our honey wines and liqueurs. And if that's not enough, why not enjoy a cuppa, coffee or light meal at the adjoining Honey Haven Cafe - the food's fresh and home baked. The first stop for the discerning tourist, the Mudgee Honey Haven has it all.

We visited and our host was very informative on her wine knowledge. We tried a number of wines and enjoyed the reds. We then did a cheese tasting bit disappointed in the amount given to get the real taste. We met the young lady who owns the winery who was very friendly and made us welcomed. Lovely place to visit.

Burnbrae has been in our family since 2004 because we just love wine. Burnbrae is one of the oldest wineries in Mudgee being established in 1968 and since then we've produced some truly cracking wines.

Stopped by here on our Mudgee wine tasting expedition and were thoroughly glad we did. Other reviews have commented on the butterscotch schnapps- we couldn't leave without three bottles. The rest of the spirits were fantastic too, rich and tasting of real ingredients. So glad these guys do online ordering!
