So many great pieces can be seen here for free! A docent took us around explaining the best parts of the museum and then left us to explore on our own. They also offer children's activities throughout the year, many for free.

Love to visit Landrum's Homestead & Village. I am so impressed with a family who can work together creating such an educational and interesting museum that takes you back in time.
They also have such beautiful handmade furniture, etc. to look at or purchase. Research online to find out hours of operation and activities available before going. The special holiday events are great fun. There are several buildings that have a mold/mildew problem, so if you have allergies, be aware not to go into these buildings. You will know immediately which ones to avoid. Also, if you have vertigo or such problems, do not go into the leaning house!!! The sign warns you in advance, so be sure to obey! Take quarters if you plan to shoot the (toy) guns or feed the animals. The gem mining is great fun. Wear good walking shoes.

This theatre company does 4-5 shows a year and they're all quite amazing. The amount of talent in this little town constantly surprises us. We've gone to comedies and dramas, but mostly make sure to never miss any of the musicals. And it's in an old movie theatre called the Arabian that was converted to a performance space - the Arabic and Egyptian details all throughout are spectacular

Slowboat Brewing Company

Reviewed By Dwise100 - Poplarville, Mississippi

It is such a great pleasure to see craft brewing expanding in Mississippi. Slowboat Brewing in Laurel is one of the latest to open. The location is in a reclaimed downtown building (maybe an auto repair shop?) and has that real deal micro brewery feel. Personally I prefer the old building feel over the new facility look. Shows character.
And so do their beers. Into the Mystic, a Belgian Witbier brewed with Hibiscus is one of their greats. Dairy of a Madman, a milk stout with hints of vanilla is also another go to. The day we visited they had a cask of Ale flavored with watermelon that was really interesting. Not sure what their plans are but come July 1, under a new law in Mississippi they can open up as a real deal pub, so expect some growth.
Also I see they normally have a food truck out back. Very reminiscent of the smaller breweries I have toured in Denver and Asheville.
Check this place out.

Woodcut Funhouse

I've been making woodcuts for over twenty years. I love it! I'm the owner of the Woodcut Funhouse, which is my studio /print shop/retail space, located in historic downtown Laurel, Mississippi.I give about a dozen lectures or appearances at Universities a year, my work has been featured on book covers, album covers, product labels, magazines , TV and film. I'm also a proud member of the legendary Outlaw Printmakers. Next time you're driving through, stop by for a minute and grab a cold Mountain Dew, or sit down a while and have a cup of coffee with my wife Julie.Your kids can play with the five of mine and they can draw on my chalkboard wall or watch as we print up a shirt as you wait! This is where you purchase woodcut prints, t-shirts, and stickers directly from me. Thanks for stopping by, every print or shirt you buy from me gets me one step closer to my ultimate goal of staying home with my family and making woodcuts all day long! I could never thank you enough.
