Top 9 Things to do in Ko Lanta, Thailand

September 9, 2017 Frederic Celentano

The dive sites surrounding Ko Lanta are considered to be some of Thailand’s finest. An intricate system of reefs, islets, and underwater caves are teeming with vibrant sea life. While you splash in the waves you may catch a glimpse of a Moken (sea gypsy) boat, gliding nomadically through the waters. Cap off your day with mouthwatering seafood, freshly caught and spicy enough to make your tongue tingle.

Lanta Animal Welfare

Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW) is a non-profit organization based on Ko Lanta. LAW's objective is to rehabilitate suffering and sick animals on the island through sterilisation and care. We are open to visitors everyday from 9am to 5pm and our volunteer staff will happily provide a guided tour of the centre every hour, between 10am and 4pm. If a rescue dog needs exercising, visitors with appropriate experience may take them on one of our three walking routes. The best time to exercise a rescue dog is from 8.30am - 11am or 15:00-17:00. We do not walk our dogs in the heat of the day. The dogs spend their days in grassy outdoor pens, so like everywhere in Thailand, it's best to wear insect/mosquito repellant when visiting. Our major sponsor is Time For Lime bar, restaurant and cooking school, without their valuable support we would not be here. NOW OPEN: Kitty City and Kitty Cafe! Enjoy a bite to eat or a refreshing iced tea while hanging out with our rescued cats.

What a great place for stray animals and animals who have been abused. The volunteers are extremely generous with their time and take their jobs very seriously. They have a good handle on the animals and keep them under control and well fed. They count on your contributions, financially or adopting. They put all funds to use on the animals.
We enjoyed the tour and felt very gratified with making a donation.
It’s worth the trip.

If you are looking for a calm beach where you can spend hours and hours just walking between your blanket and the water, this is your place. Doesn't have that much shadow (there are shadow but no abundance), but have a bar and some restingspots for rent, 20 bhat. Snorkeling is bad, nothing to see.
Be ware of monkeys, always lock your bag thoroughly.
Best way to reach this place is by motorbike. Be aware that there are a limited space for parking

Ko Rok Nok

Lying south of Phuket, these twin Islands are known for their pristine white Beaches and colorful coral reefs for snorkeling and diving.

Reviewed By KashmirFriend - Coimbatore, India

Koh Rok is one of the most beautiful of the Islands about an hour's speeedboat ride from Koh Lanta. The super soft, white and fine grains of sand adorning the beach is not commonly found in most locations. The Emerald water with a number of Snorkeling sites is not to be missed. There are separate day tours exclusively for this island with buffet lunch, drinking water, fruits, snorkeling equipment and life jackets are available. Some boat operators provide full face covering snorkeling equipment for kids and elders who are not comfortable using classic two piece snorkeling equipment. Ask me for recommendations of operators which I have tried and the prices.

Very sleepy little island. Many return year after year and for good reason. A place to unwind and unplug. Very tiny town where one can find food, basics (beer, snacks, replenishments, etc), a couple shops carrying the typical touristy items, and visit with the locals. Good choice of budget up to expensive. Food was ok but recommend venturing out of your resort and supporting the locals. We were pretty disheartened to see so much garbage on the beautiful Beaches but many beachfront resorts keep their properties clean. Make sure to rent a scooter and explore the island. You can find long stretches of beach totally deserted and ready for your topless tanning and exploring. If you love mojitos and eating dinner on the beach visit The Last Fisher resort on the tip of the island! Lovely people. We will return!

Kantiang Bay

Kantiang Bay can be found towards the south of the island on Ko Lanta's west coast. The Bay is a little-known, beach-lover's haven where you can truly relax and soak up the Sunshine and beach-life of an island paradise. There's plenty of things to do - live a castaway dream, paddle in the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Andaman Sea, learn to scuba dive, or just make Kantiang Bay your sun-kissed home for a while.

We travelled here by taxi and it was well worth a visit. Warm clear waters and long sandy beach with no stones. We practically had the beach to ourselves. There are rocks at either end but the middle section was perfect. No shade on this beach so don't go if you want shade. There are places for food and drinks.

Diamond Cliff beach

We hired a car for the day to drive around the island and found this place. We hung out at the restaurant which sits on clifftops overlooking a magnificent beach. Then we spent a few hours on the beach - which is absolutely stunning with crystal waters and perfect for children. We went back up to the restaurant for lunch and it was one of the best meals we had in Ko Lanta, and the best value too. We did not want to leave as we sat staring out over that perfect ocean with sandy feet and salty skin. It was bliss and we wished we had been able to book accommodation here, even though we didn't stay I would have to recommend it as a place to stay based on the restaurant and that beach. Perfection!

You hike 20-30 minutes through the jungle along a waterfall and have about an hour in the cave before hiking back. You need to be able to climb and crawl in some places. Two kids around 10 were in our group and they did fine but keep in mind some places will be dangerous. The cave has some huge open rooms like an underground palace. There are spiders and bats that the guide will point out. We had a great time. It was probably one of our favorite activities on lanta.

Really chilled and quiet. No beach beds, parasols or beach sellers.
Beautiful beach. I hope this retains its natural charm and doesn’t turn into a chavfest like Chaweng
