Withrow Springs State Park

Reviewed By GNAC-001 - Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

The park has about 30 RV sites and 10 tent sites. RV sites include water, electric and sewer. Tent sites are rustic with a local bathroom (flush toilets). Arkansas State Parks are very consistent in their bathroom and shower facilities. We have stayed at nearly a dozen different parks and their bath houses are all based on the same model - very clean, bright and well maintained.
Others complain about cars on the entrance/bypass road - please - the area is rural - overnight you'd be hard pressed to count a dozen cars going down the road. It is not a shortcut versus the main road.
Night time - dark enough to see the Milky Way if the sky is clear.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge

"With over 100 exotic cats and other wildlife on display, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest big cat sanctuaries in the United States. The non-profit USDA licensed refuge, founded in 1992, has grown to become one of the Top 10 attractions in Arkansas and the most popular in Eureka Springs. Lions, cougars, leopards, tigers, and bears are displayed in large natural habitats surrounding the main enclosures and gift shop. Each animal has its own story/history plaque for self-guided tours and over night accommodations are available via the Safari Lodge, RV park, and camping facilities. Guided tours are available from 10am until 4pm (Summer) or 3pm (Winter). The refuge is open year round (except Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.."

We were disappointed in the Wildlife Refuge. They do a great service rescuing big cats and bears. The problem was the guide could not get her microphone to work, it was a cold day walking quite a distance on gravel and only able to catch an occasional word. The bear area was not open yet.

Although expensive ($16) we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our guide,Phil, was a wealth of information since he grew up in the area and has been guiding there for years. Jessie James used it for a hideout and some movie shots were taken there. In addition...MorePhil is truly amazing! He is retired military and he would do anything for us - as we would for him. Glory Hole Trail and Waterfall

I didn't find a site for the falls. Just enter "Glory Hole Arkansas" in the search, many reviews from many sites will come up; take your choice. The falls has cut a hole into a bluff and falls through the 4-ft thick rock.

This is a "real trail". You have to be looking for this one as you drive by the place to pull off the road. Also, there are a few spots where it looks like the trail can go a couple of different directions. Follow the sign that says "Stay away from the cliffs". That's actually the right way to go. Our family of four loved this hike, and the beauty of the Glory Hole is just amazing. Enjoy this out and back hike!

This place is worth the short drive, about 15 minutes from Eureka Springs. The countryside and views on the drive are nice too, lots of hills and farmland. Then you arrive at this house! Wow, someone had a crazy dream and brought it to life in this house! I won't go into the history, you should go and find out for yourself. I can only say, some people live their lives in a way that leave a mark on the world, even if it's just in a house. A grandaughter (I think) still lives in this place, and I saw a cat there too. I wouldn't mind living there either, although all the glass pieces are a little scary.
It's not always open, so if it is take advantage and go see it. Definitely worth it.

King's River Outfitters

Reviewed By CornFed69 - Cedar Falls, Iowa

Good hosts on a hot lazy day. Not the best river level for the float but it's July. Did the 5 hr float which took 2.5 hr. Love the fact that rivers are respected unlike those in Iowa where were from. Beautiful water with little human waste noticeable. Good outfitter on a slow hot weekday. Enjoy the river but leave it as is. Arkansas has nature to love and enjoy!
