We were lucky enough to have the daughter of the family guide us round, so got some interesting insights into her background and that of the house and its role over its history.

Visited one afternoon and enjoyed the lengthy history. It over looks the town and the views are spectacular. Worth the walk up, but you can also take a cab up and walk down.

The visit was very interesting, the price includes a tour guide in english which explains us what the rooms were for. It's worth getting there to better understand Albanian Life!

Gjirokastra Bazaar

Reviewed By EricaDavid - Pacific Coast Australia, Australia

Spent 7 days in Gjirokaster and still enjoyed the atmosphere to the end. It is currently being renovated on one side but it does not imoeded enjoyment of the place. The traditional stone steep streets are remarkable with many having decorative patterns.
The Traditional Woodfired Byreks in the street leading to the castle were the best we have ever eaten!

This is Enva Hodger's house but now little trace of him remains. Good place to visit to see how a "upper middle class" family would have lived.

The Cold War Tunnel

Reviewed By John B - Toronto, Canada

Visiting the Cold War Tunnel is an absolute must if in Gjirokaster (assuming you're not claustrophobic). The size of the tunnel complex, which contains dozens of rooms, is staggering considering the size of the community - today the city has a population of 25,000 and it would have been much smaller 40 years ago.
You purchase your tickets (200 lek per person) at the small tourist booth just past Hotel Cajupi in the main square area. The individual who mans the booth will then take you on a tour of the tunnels - you can't access them by yourself. Do bring a flashlight or be prepared to use your phone as certain sections are dark. The guide does a good job of explaining how the tunnel complex was used and is happy to answer any questions you may have (his English was excellent).

Gjirokaster Mosque

Reviewed By shainaftali - Haifa, Israel

In Gjirokaster we spend two nitghs at the Hotel/B&B Kotoni,30€ per nigth per room.Very good, good service, good breakfast, good vibes, good views, everything there was just good, even the little cat!!!!The place its amazing!!!!the people nice and very interested and to get to know who your are and were do you come from....We loved every single minute in Gjrirokaster.
Stay at Hotel Kotoni and enjoy the city.
Do not spend time in the NEW Gjirokaster, down town.
When you get by buss, like we did, or car, you will have to pass trhough the newr part of the city witch is down in the valley. Ypu will have to walk or take a local little bus or a taxi all the way up to the upper part of Gjirokaster, wich is the older one. you can also walk , like we did,it takes about 30 minute sto walk all the way upp, but the reward is just imposible to mention in words...the palce its really A MUST fort every one.

Nature&joy

You will know the albanian beautiful nature

Reviewed By OtsoKa - Helsinki, Finland

We wanted to go to Çajupi Mountain, but Uljana suggested we should go to Antigonea instead, as there were roadworks on the road to Çajupi. This was perfect for us: Antigonea offered ancient Greek history and spectacular mountain views. We spent a lovely afternoon walking in the area.
Uljana picked us up from at our hotel, and her fiancé drove us to Antigonea and back. On the way, we stopped to take photos and visited one of the famous bunkers.
We can highly recommend Uljana and this tour. It was the highlight of our stay in Albania.
