Memorial de l'Armistice

This clearing marks the site of the drawing up of the armistice agreement with the defeated Germans in 1918.

This is a very interesting memorial. One can see statues, displays about the two World Wars and a railway carriage identical to where the surrenders of 1918 and 1940 were signed. Inside this the seating of each of the delegates and participants is shown.

Musee et Domaine Nationaux de Compiegne

The royal chateau in which Marie Antoinette first met the Dauphin.

Probably not as well known or as ornate as Versailles but well worth the visit as it is tucked away in Compiegne which has plenty of free or affordable parking. Some of the rooms in the palace are stunning especially the bedrooms. There is also a museum which has plenty to see especially the sleighs. There is also a small cafe on site which is quite expensive so you may be better eating in the tow. There is plenty of cycling and walking available in the grounds which is free to use.
