Known as Yunnan-Fu until the 1920s, today it is a prefecture-level city and the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. Kunming is also called the Spring city due to its weather. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming. It was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. Located in the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. Kunming has as of 2014 a population of 6,626,000 with an urban population of 4,575,000, and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes.

This place has the most authentic flat white Iâve had in China, so if you like your coffee I would highly recommend a visit. The space itself is very modern and comfortable. I can imagine spending a lazy afternoon here doing some work or meeting friends. They serve western food at very reasonable prices. We would recommend the burger!

O'Reilly's Dongfeng East location is directly across from the Holiday Inn and just about a block from Keats Chinese Institute. A wide range of beers are served including everything from Guinness to Beer Lao. For those who like a beer that wets your whistle than haunts your dreams All That Asia suggests "La Chouffe" which is described on the menu as "Strong Beer of Belgian Dwarf" and you will definitely feel as if a sadistic Dwarf has climbed inside your head is using your frontal lobe as a punching bag! This beer is worth the extra price for the extra punch it carries but be very careful as the Dwarf does sneak up on you!The food is good but not spectacular and on par with most pubs. The atmosphere is lively and things get pretty busy by 10pm although most of the clientele is Chinese. There are nightly specials as well as occasional live music. A good experience and a great place to kick back and relax... just beware of the Dwarf!

The bar has a large and open area, but didn't seem to fill it when I was visiting. The live band was great and played a variety of international songs. 40RMB for a long island iced tea, 25RMB for the cheapest pint. The experience was decent overall, but it just didn't feel like a very lively bar- had very few foreigners inside, and was filled up by groups of Chinese people slowly sipping drinks.Hey frostedd,Thanks for taking the time to write a review, it's always appreciated! Between the rains and the lack of foreign students and teachers, July and August are by some margin our most quiet time of the year. I'm sorry you ended up here on a more relaxed night and I hope you can make it in another time to check out the real O'Reilly's vibe!-MGMT

Ozzie's is a most welcomed addition to Kunming's foreign food beat, located inside the cosmopolitan Banzhuhou Street area. The burgers are as close as one can get to a 'Greasy Joe's' style-burger at a reasonable price. The ingredients match up, and, as a fellow strayan abroad, the smells and flavours of the tucker brings back beaut memories from home. The atmosphere is laid-back, friendly and has an outside balcony. A bonza spot for those who want to blow the froth off a few coldies (Coopers on the menu) or just enjoy a cheeky durry. The staff are heaps friendly and the joint offers background tunes from some of the 'Ming's finest DJs, such as funk/soul DJ, DJ DSK. A slice of home away from home and I'll be heading back for sure. Thanks to Al, Charles, Lemon and the waitresses for their hospitality.

Humdinger is a real find in Kunming although billed mainly as brew pub its has excellent food. This brilliant micro-brewery has an excellent selection of beers ( I had the German Pilsner) and an acceptable selection of wines. The food though was really stunning under the new chef Steven. Great pizzas, steaks and burgers to die for and snacks ....so we had the mushroom pizza and I had the fried beef. The pizza was excellent and so was the beef.Service was friendly and efficient. The clientele was mainly local, playing cards and games, listening to the excellent music and some a little to worse for ware.This is a great place to hang out, to enjoy food and excellent value for money brilliant..
