I paddled midweek, and this outfitter was less crowded than Wild Bill's. Good service and got me on the river fast, even though only two of us in van. Their tandem kayaks (sit-in) were showing their wear-and-tear but I don't know that the other outfitters...MoreThanks for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated. We have had some problems with the longevity on the brand of tandem sit-in kayaks we use. They are just not lasting as long as we wish.

Arkansas Trout Fishing Outfitter Guide Service Guided Arkansas (one day) trout fishing trips on the White River and overnight (two day or more) fishing camp trips on our private 15 Acre island in the White River. Buffalo River wilderness area bass fishing trips and fishing camp trips. All trips are fully outfitted by us. Guides, fishing gear, camping gear (wall tents, cots, etc.), food and cooks are all included.On our one day (or half day) trips you don't just fish in the vicinity of our dock (called "fishing local"). On our usual "full day" trip, you fish 14 miles and on our usual "half day" you fish 10 miles of the White River. We then "pick you up" (along with your guides and Jon boats) and bring you back to our dock location in Cotter in our Suburbans and/or vans.Covering this larger portion of the river gives your guide the opportunity to get you to more "holes" (deeper areas) of the river where the guide knows the trout are likely to be. Catching 30 - 40 trout per day per person is not unusual. You can only keep five.If you prefer not to fish, we also do site-seeing trips the same way. Try our Shore Lunch of bacon and tomato sandwiches, black-eyed peas, hush-puppies, french fries and strawberry shortcake or banana pudding along with your freshly caught trout! This is all cooked by your guide along the riverbank over a charcoal fire.

Have been fishing from Cotter Trout Dock annually since before Debbie and Ron took over many years ago. I have NEVER been disappointed. You are treated like family. I have used many different guides. They are ALL good. Most recent trip was with Paden. This young man really knows that river. I would not hesitate in recommending him. He put me onto fish all day without lulls. Had my usual GREAT time. Highly recommended.

Our customers say to us that they will never fish with another out fitter because our boats are so much more comfortable safer as our boats are twenty five percent larger five feet longer gives a lot of room and it adds to the trip. also the fact that our guides do not smoke or curse and are much more helpful and curious. these are a few things we here also that one of the reasons they count the days till they can come back is the great shore lunch everyone comments that a big fish is the only that tops the fish they caught cooked for lunch

To say that our party of four enjoyed a half-day of trout fishing with Ralph Chatelain, of "White River Family Fishing," just wouldn't adequately describe the experience. He took us TROUT CATCHING, which is a whole lot more fun. We boarded his large, roomy boat at the State Park Trout Dock in the White River Tailwaters below Bull Shoals Dam. Over the next 4 1/2 hours, Ralph kept us entertained, kept our tackle in order, kept our bait in the water, and we caught a lot of trout. We kept our limit of 20 (four of us), but threw back more than that amount to fight another day. Ralph prepared us a terrific shore lunch with the trout we had just caught. Now that's a fresh fish dinner. We took our leftovers home for another dinner the next night. I won't even attempt to describe the beauty of the scenery along the White River, but recommend that you see if at your earliest opportunity. My best buddy told me that he believes it's so beautiful because that's where God plans to spend His retirement. Sounds reasonable to me. And yes, the next time I'm in the Bull Shoals area, I intend on going fishing again with Ralph Chatelain. You should too.

You can drive around a turnabout next to the dam. It really has a beautiful view and gives you an idea of how deep the lake actually is.

This is a wonderful and relatively easy way to peacefully float down a lovely river and enjoy unspoiled nature in with little noise and usually few people. Wild Bill's Outfitters is located about 4 minutes drive from the Buffalo River just outside Yellville Arkansas. Bill's provided us with canoes, paddles and lifejackets and drove us with the canoes to the river at the put-in place. At his outfit store and office, Bill's has a good selection of most stores necessary and helpful for a fun time . He also has a BBQ but although tempting, we did not stay for it.
We had already booked by phone but signed-in at his store. We drove as directed to the end of the float and left our cars there. Bill's people picked us up and then drove us upriver with the canoes to the put-in place.
His people at the store were very helpful and knowledgable, and his canoes and paddles are all in good condition. We could have hired kayaks or floats but preferred canoes. before launching we were provided with a safety briefing about lifejackets capsizing and handling of the canoe in case of capsize.
We floated the river and at the planned end simply dragged the canoes onto a shingle beach and left them and all his gear there, picked up our cars and drove away.
In spring the head waters of the Buffalo River can be exciting as some is white water. This dries up in summer. We floated in mid summer last year with low water so the river was sluggish and flowed slowly, but the water was crystal clear and the scenery beautiful. We stopped for many swims. This August we floated after heavy rains so the water was cloudy and fast flowing water from bank to bank. Both floats were in the middle section of the river length. We had a great time on both occasions. and will certainly return next year and probably stay over night and enjoy his BBQ!

You can rent comfortable over night cabins from Bill's.
book in advance including a time to be there (important as they transport to the put in locations at set times .
get there as early in the day as you can.
plan on about a three hour max float first time, Bill's will advise which

water in a float or purchase from Bill's, light snacks in water proof containers, bathers, hats, sun screen, towels and a change of clothes (leave these in your car) camera in a water proof cover or box.
We had no wireless reception on the river.

Rush, AR is a neat Ghost Town and is very well maintained by the US National Parks Service as it located in the Buffalo National River area. It is located at the end of Marion County Road 6035 off Hwy 14 in the middle of the Ozark Mountains. The address is listed as Yellville, AR. However, I would highly recommend using Google Maps to guide you to the exact location (listed as “Rush Historic District” on Google Maps). Most of the drive is on paved road, with only the last mile or two being on a gravel road. It is a well-maintained gravel road which is can be easily traversed by car. On the right you will first see some old houses and a deteriorating General Store. Drive on past these buildings about 0.2 miles and you will see a parking area with a pavilion. The pavilion has a map and historical information as well as brochures which detail the historical points of interests and hiking trails. There is a short loop trail leaving the pavilion with historical points noted on the map and coordinated on the trail with informative signs at each point detailing the remnants of the buildings and providing a historical perspective of the living conditions. The old zinc mining town at its height had around 5,000 people living and thriving in the isolated Ozarks. The loop interpretive trail ends with a stairway descent to the parking area. Be forewarned, if you are visiting in the summer, wear bug spray! We visited in June after a wet spring, and the bugs were everywhere. We ended up with multiple chigger bites and I removed two ticks immediately upon leaving the trail. I would suggest going in the winter, late fall or early spring to avoid the bugs and potential snakes. There is also a longer trail through the woods and leads hikers past the entrance point of the zinc mines and are also noted on the hiking brochure. This longer hike ends at the beautiful Buffalo River. Because of the heat, humidity and bugs, we did not do the mine trail, but I would like to return in cold weather to see the multiple entrances to the mines. The road from the parking area also leads to the Buffalo River where there is a large parking area, picnic tables and a put in spot for canoes and kayaks for the Buffalo River. It appeared to be a pick-up spot for people rafting the river. I have been to several Ghost Towns, this is one of the best maintained and informative.
