Animal Flower Cave

NOTE : THE CAVE IS A NATURAL SEA CAVE - IT IS SLIPPERY, IT IS WET, IT IS A SEA CAVE. WE DO SEND A GUIDE WITH EACH TOUR TO AIDE PEOPLE AS NEEDED. WE DO ADVISE THE ELDERLY AND THOSE NOT FIRM ON THEIR FEET TO STAY 'UP TOP'AND ENJOY THE SCENERY AND MAYBE A RUM PUNCH OR TWO! A Natural Wonder of Barbados not to be missed. Located at the most northerly tip of the Island is the Animal Flowr Cave where the coastal scenery is spectacular. The cave got its name from the tube worms that are found in its many rock pools, these are seasonal however so not always in residence, regardless the cave itself is still well worth a visit. You can even swim inside the largest rock pool inside the cave which a fantastic adventure all by itself. Make sure you bring your swim wear and towels. The views from the naturally formed windows out to the ocean are fabulous so bring your camera too. There is now a new restaurant on site and seating area with panoramic sea views, there is a children's playpark too so plan to spend some time with us enjoying the cool sea breezes and the fabulous views that we love to share with you all. This was just amazing! You have to visit the animal flower caves if you're in Barbados. One of the only places to go cave swimming on the island. The views out of the cave "windows" of the Atlantic ocean meeting the Caribbean sea are breathtaking, and who could pass up the opportunity to jump into a 10ft deep natural pool! Note that access is somewhat challenging, several steep stairs down into the cave, and once inside the ground is rocky and very slippery. The guides recommended proper shoes/trainers rather than flip flops, and to take as little baggage with you as there is a risk you could slip on the rocks. The caves here unlike Harrison are not mobility friendly and would be unsuitable for very young children that need to be carried.

Harrison's Point Lighthouse

Reviewed By xavenger - Windermere, United Kingdom

The lighthouse is in a remote area and you have to drive through an abandoned naval base, which was most recently used as a prison, to get to it. We found the area around the lighthouse pretty spooky, and felt a little uneasy being somewhere so remote. The buildings that you will pass by - that were used as a prison - still have cages inside them, where you can imagine a pretty grim existence, be careful if you choose to explore them - because some of the buildings might not be safe. The lighthouse itself is quite a lovely (but slightly dilapidated) thing, you enter through a broken door and can go all the way up to the top on a spiral stair case. It seems to be structurally sound, but you need to be careful. There are great views from the top - and again you really feel like you're visiting somewhere you shouldn't (which might be the case!). When we were at the top of the lighthouse, we saw a truck approach the base of it, and felt quite nervy about who it could be - but it was a family, like us - with children, and we soon ended up chatting with them. If you like being off the beaten path, want to imagine you're in some post-apocalyptic environment (the area around it feels like a set from "The Walking Dead"), and also love the magical nature of lighthouses - then do visit. We've given this a 5/5 review, because well - it is free and it will make a permanent memory visiting here, but it you're looking for glamour, safety and cleanliness this might not be for you. Explore carefully and have fun!
