D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery

It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

Beer Historified. I know, that is not a word but I think it sums up well. There is a history to this brewery and it is on the National Historic Registry. The tour runs several times a day, is free and my guide was obviously enjoying the job so it was fun. It took about an hour and you get to see “The Cave,” the bottling line and lots more. Afterwards, I had to look up “Sternenwirth” for a bit more history. You might like to also. Great inside peek at how they have done it for years. You get samples at the END of the tour…so anticipate that part. If you can swing it, definitely worth the couple of hours of time to find the brewery, park on the streets and take it. Great fun.

My wife and daughter love lavender so we dropped in for a visit and met with the owners. They were very gracious and gave a huge amount of information about growing and using Lavender. They have a small assortment of retail items that all seem to be very high quality.

Majestic Theater

One of only two remaining reverse screen theaters in the State of Pennsylvania. Renovated into a performing arts center in the heart of Downtown Pottsville.

Reviewed By BriteGuy - (Exeter Twp.) Birdsboro, PA

A really great place to enjoy musical performances, plays and other theatrical performances in a somewhat intimate setting. The theater has only 200 seats, and they are all modern and very comfortable. They even have built-in cup holders. The restoration of the building was done very well and nearly authentic to the time when it was in its hayday. The chandeliers and sidelights are very impressive and do their job very well...without glare. A small lobby where the requisite freshly made popcorn, drinks, candy, etc., are available at reasonable prices. Ticket prices are quite reasonably priced, too. Check the website for the current schedule, pick one and go. You'll enjoy yourself.

I'm local, so we stopped by to check it out. Cute little shop with a very knowledgeable owner. Great for kids! Has moon rocks, pieces of mars & meteorites, some even for sale. He demonstrated how to find meteorites in our own backyard and how to spot impact craters on Google maps.
Just a short walk from the Yuengling brewery!

Owner was very friendly & informative about both 1. items in the shop, and 2. her classes in the arts - particularly "mud-making" i.e., spinning clay dishes. bowls, plates, etc. I will probably be signing up for one of her classes - always wanted to try that!
