Machala (Spanish pronunciation: [maˈtʃala]) is a city in south-west Ecuador. It is the capital of the El Oro Province, and is located near the Gulf of Guayaquil on fertile lowlands. Machala has a population of 241,606 (2010 census); it is the fourth-biggest city in the country, and the second-most important port. It has been referred to as the Banana Capital of the World.

The best thing about the forest is the journey to get there as it offers amazing panoramas.
In the forest you will do a short circuit with a guide who will give you a few generic explanations about what you are seeing. What you will see are basically a few petrified tree trunks. (that sounds funny...)
Entrance fee is 1USD and the place is open every day from 9-5. However, this might change at any point.
Good luck finding any public transport to get there. I was extremely lucky that my Couchsurfing host took me there with his car.

Machala is a big bustling city, I used it as a base for my trips to nearby Jambely beach, Zaruma colonial city and to travel to Peru. seafood is the mandatory and is sold nearly everywhere: ceviches, crabs, prawns etc.

It seemed as if every time I walked across the central plaza, beautiful, by the way, there was a mass service at the Cathedral. Always well attended.

Machala ist eine hässliche ecuadorianische Stadt. Wenn man von Tumbes (Perú) nach Quito fahren will muss man dort den Bus wechseln!
Das UP ist der einzigste Lichtblick einer trostlosen Stadt.

Es un lugar agradable al aire libre junto a otros locales de comer en oro plaza, el ambiente está bueno, siempre hay gente, la atención fue amable y precios normales, Es permitido fumar cosa q es un plus para muchos pero incómodo para otros, fui con mi esposo pedimos cervezas, no somos amantes de los cócteles, su carta tiene una amplia variedad de cócteles comerciales en especial coloridos frozen y cremosos(no son de mi agrado), también ofrecen tragos directos y una variedad corta de picaditas básicas pero están muy bien(si tienen hambre pueden pedir de los locales de al lado q hay desde pizza hasta parrilla). Nada del otro mundo pero si lo recomiendo. Divertido para ir con amigos.

Fuimos con un grupo de amigos y estuvo muy entretenido pedimos unos tragos y conversamos de la vida , en realidad lo recomiendo
