Bugline Trail

Reviewed By GeofJx - Germantown, United States

The Bugline Trail runs from Menomonee Falls to Merton in the Milwaukee suburbs along a 16 mile section of old railroad that used to haul stone from the local quarries. It is an asphalt paved multi use trail that is mostly level and very well maintained. You can start at many points along the trail - we usually start in Menomonee Falls as it is closer to where we live. At the east end you can access the trail from the parking lot of the shopping center at Shady Lane and Fon du Lac Ave. just north of downtown Menomonee Falls. Just park away from the businesses if you go during business hours. The trail runs through backyards out of Menomonee Falls crossing several side streets then across Main Street into a wooded area. From this point it is mostly in woods as you pass several rock quarries and several main roads. Watch for traffic at the road intersections. Between milepost 4 and 5 there is a trail that goes off to the North to Menomonee Park that is well worth the effort. After a few miles the trail passes through Sussex and back on to Merton. There are several places to stop for snacks along the way or places to eat in Menomonee Falls, Sussex and Merton. There is no fee for using the trail.
