The Polar Bear Society is located on the coastal steamer pier, together with Hammerfest’s Tourist Information. Join the world famous and exclusive society, and receive the Polar Bear Pin as proof that you visited the World’s Northernmost Town – Hammerfest! Our museum showcases our proud traditions with fishing and hunting in arctic conditions. There is also a gift shop. You can only become a member in the Polar Bear Society when you visit Hammerfest in person. A membership costs NOK 200,00 as a one time fee. The money supports the exhibition and pays the components of the membership: the Polar Bear pin in silver and enamel, a sticker with our logo on, a brochure with our statutes and some information, a diploma with your name on signed by the mayor of Hammerfest, a membership card with your own membership number.

In an expensive country a great little museum like this which is free to enter is most welcome. The museum is an extension to the tourist information office.
The museum is small but is exceptionally well laid out and informative with good exhibits, the stuffed animals being in excellent condition.
A must if you are visiting Hammerfest, located right by the Hurtigruten terminal.

The polar bear in the town’s coat of arms is the symbol of the town’s proud roots connected to Arctic hunting. In recent years, the town has gained world renown for Snohvit, the world’s northernmost LNG plant, and the very first natural gas development in the Barents Sea. In this office you can discover the history of the town and its inhabitants, human and animal.
The walls are covered with information.
There are stuffed animals all around, many a photo opportunity is within this building.
Housed in this office is The Polar Bear Society, were you can register for a 'one off' donation and make your contribution to their conservation.
This is more than the usual tourist office. A must visit when in this most Northerly Town.

Hammerfest church - the previous church was burned down during WW2 when the Nazis retreated in 1944. It has a stunning interior and it's free of charge to visit.

The Museum of Reconstruction for Finnmark and North Troms - the museum commemorates the war and the scorched-earth policy of Hammerfest by the retreating Nazis during WW2 and it's reconstruction. During the war 50,000 people from the North were forced to evacuate to the south, while 25,000 hid in caves or found refuge elsewhere - relying on the allies (especially the Russians) to come rescue them.

Just another bar. However, it is probably the only bar in Hammerfest with some class. Could recommend the beer tasting.

We didnt even know about the history attached to this memorial and celebration of its amazing scientific contributions. Amazing and well worth a visit.

It is a very nice Fountain in the center of Hammerfest. The day we were there we found some children playing near the Fountain and many adults sitting on park benches around the Fountain.
