The Chateau of Monbazillac dates from around 1550 and has been the property of Monbazillac Cooperative Winery since 1960. Its architecture is a mix of balance and dissymmetry shaped by the demands of medieval defensive style and the beginning of Renaissance. This protestant stronghold has been a listed Historic Monument since 1941. The Chateau is furnished and open all the year long for self-guided or guided tours. After the tour a wine tasting is offered to each visitor. Closed in january.

The Castle of Monbazillac has an amazing location with stellar views. The castle has been lovingly cared for but retains its historic character. In the U.S. I imagine one would not be able to be so up front and personal in such an historic property.

This famous statue keeps the famous story alive for the generations who had come here and continue to come . The whole place is a charm filled magic land around it . The back drop and the beautiful church within walking distance adds on to it ! Generally crowded but inviting . The eateries littered around here offer a great meal but , bad services. Generally outdoor Seating . The statue is a landmark . Do not miss . Do not miss going around walking !

A classic mid gothic church, grand enough to be a Cathedral if it had a bishop. Stately flying buttresses, soaring bell tower, melodious bell, and impressive stained glass. Worth a trip and a look.

You could easily walk past this attractive museum close to the river.It has been renovated so is fairly new. Wonderful artefacts from the m middle ages. Lots displays from the wine region of Bergerac and showing local history. Entrance is 3 Euro.

We rode to these locks along the canal from Lalinde. The level route made for an easy but pretty cycle route and we appreciated riding under the dappled light sheltering us from a hot day. The locks themselves are very run down and clearly not in use but are attractively overgrown. The river is just nearby along with the dam and power station (which is open to the public and probably makes for an interesting wet day activity).

After a time in the southwest of France you begin to notice "everything" seems to be along the St Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage route (hence, the name of the church). It is of Romanesque, though as one would expect, it has undergone significant alterations over the years. Sitting out front is one of the two Cyrano de Bergerac statues in the town.
