In Vienna, the coffee house isn’t just a hangout: it’s an institution. Lingering over a newspaper with a pastry and a strong espresso drink is, according to UNESCO, officially a Viennese cultural pastime. Walk off your slice of Sachertorte with a self-guided tour of the city’s stunning traditional, Secessionist, and modern architecture, such as the Imperial Palace, the State Opera House, the Kirche am Steinhof, or the Kunsthistorisches Museum, an exercise in ornate geometry.

Hundertwasser Village

The 'Hundertwasser Village' was designed by famous Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1991. It is located opposite 'Hundertwasserhaus' and shows his ideas of interior design. The house had been used by a car tyre company before and was completely redesigned by Hundertwasser.Hundertwasser at the opening: 'With the Village for my friend Kalke I was acting as a doctor for architecture: Don't demolish and rebuild but use existing building fabric and improve it by changing or adding to the building and inserting components with new forms and colours.'Hundertwasser Village is one of the most visited sightseeing places in Vienna and open for visitors all year. Entrance is free.

Did you ever try to find a place where you can relax and knit in an elegant, yet cozy atmosphere? This is that place, friends. Wonderfully designed, with amazing, high-quality yarn, sample items (many for sale at very good prices!), and the owner and her assistant there to help you choose, or five advice with your project. Sit down at the old wooden community table, order a tea or coffee, a piece of cake, breath in the fragrant atmosphere (they have an aromatherapy lamp going on), and knit. You can chat with someone at the table, or just listen to (always) amazing music quietly playing in the background. The shop offers evening classes and every first Tuesday of a month there is a Knit &Drink evening open to everyone. I go as often as I can, eventhough it's not as often as I can, and eventhough my knitting skills are not progressing as fast as I'd want. I advise everyone to stop by - Laniato is located on a corner of one of Vienna's nice shopping streets.
