Top 8 Shopping in Schotsche Kloof, Western Cape

October 26, 2021 Almeta Stockton

Cape Town glistens at the southern toe of the African continent. Tourist brochure-views at Blaauwberg Beach and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are within easy driving distance of "The Mother City." The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve provides sweeping sea vistas, hiking trails and wildlife encounters. On a more somber note, travelers can visit Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years.

Monkeybiz

Monkeybiz is an economic upliftment project dedicated to reviving the traditional craft of African Bead-work and empowering women to become financially independent. Since 2000 Monkeybiz has been helping its 320 bead artists to become breadwinners, explore their creative abilities and to empower their communities, while working from home. We are a creative initiative, with a spectacular showroom full of colour, shapes and patterns. Please pop in... we would love to meet you and show you what we, as an Non-Profit Organisation, are all about.

Our guide tooks us to this shop run by a nonprofit, which empowers local women by teaching them beadwork skills and providing them with the materials to earn a decent living. They are encouraged to use their creativity in designs of the beaded animals they sell--no matter what your decor, you will likely find something you like, with the many colors and designs available. The prices were reasonable and quality was great--we wished we had stocked up on more of these, as the quality and price were better than other similar beaded animals we saw elsewhere in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Jewel Africa

Reviewed By Freedom690667

My daughter and I visited Jewel Africa on a Friday afternoon. We both saw something we wanted to purchase. My daughter chose a ring but it was too big. We were leaving Cape Town on the Monday afternoon. The ring was ready on the Monday morning cut to size. I wanted to purchase a Salvation cross made by a local artist. The shop had sold the last one. We were returning from safari on the Thursday to spend one night in Cape Town. Not only had the shop contacted the artist and had another one made but delivered the cross to our hotel on the Thursday evening! Vanessa Bird you are a star!! We have never had service like it. I would recommend Jewel Africa to anyone.
