I grew up in Gazcue, Socorro Sanchez Street, #14, very close to Calle Lea De Castro. Around the corner was my grammar school, Instituto Escuela, one that I keep in my heart because it gave me lots of wonderful memories, our teachers and classmates will be impossible to forget. In my street and as well as the other streets near my home there were beautifully designed homes, ours was the first two story home built there in 1949 by the well known Arquitect Margarita Taule, one of the first female graduate in that area of expertise, last time I visited the neighborhood the interior of this originally nine bedroom family home owned by my family, Familia Canario, was retrofitted to house a day clinic, the exterior had been left intact. The families that originally built their homes in my street are obviously gone but the good memories still exist, I can even remember their names.

During my tour with Mr Peralta (Find him at Plaza Colón) he took me here on our second day. He explained how many people do exercises here because at one end it has something like a gym Free for all and many locals use it! During the weekends the Malecon turns into a hangout place for locals when they bring their food and drinks to share and enjoy out in the open! Being my the Sea the breeze here is great! I saw some employees cleaning the beach and some young men also cleaning in another area. Mr Peralta explained the government expects many citizens to help with the cleaning and pays some people also to maintain the areas clean! We walked by two restaurants and they were both highly recommended by Mr Peralta!
