Newcastle Museum

Reviewed By bobbier461 - Sydney, Australia

The museum is fantastic, plenty to see and do. The exhibitions are fabulous, especially the coal and steel exhibitions. There is lots of hands on activities for kids and adults. The old Newcastle tram and train are great. It is free admission. The museum building itself is great, as is the Civic park in front of the museum. This is definitely a must do if visiting Newcastle.

Newcastle Art Gallery

Love a visit to this beautiful regional gallery. Enjoyed the Tom Gleghorn exhibition and learning more about this local artist. And always a highlight to lie back and see the John Olsen on the roof.

The Lock-Up

Located in the heart of Newcastle’s heritage precinct in the city's original Police Station and Lock-Up, The Lock-Up Cultural Centre combines a museum with heritage cells, art gallery and artist-in-residence program to create a unique destination with a range of cultural activities not offered anywhere else in Newcastle or the Hunter Valley.

Reviewed By anythingbutzen - Canberra, Australia

History combined with art made this a really interesting place to visit. Three preserved buildings next to each other. A post office , court house and goal. Two are galleries and the post office seemed to be an undecided space when we visited. See a padded cell and containment areas for prisoners. The art was well suited to the spaces and was also worth seeing.
