My friend has booked this restaurant for her 50th birthday some months in advance, yet when we arrived, rather than seating in the restaurant, we were offered a private dining room.. (loose term), it was a meeting room, set up complete the project and screen down! Very bright lights an led absolutely no ambiance! There were 10 of us, so we decided to make what we could of if. Unfortunately, the experience got worse! (1) they kept forgetting about us, meaning we had to keep going to the bar ourselves(2) Butter was frozen when it reached the table(3) starters came out at different times meaning some people had already finished their starters when the last starter turned up(4) my risotto was dry rice with a little greenery in - completely lacked taste and seasoning(5) 8 main courses (6 rare ribeyes and 2 pink lamb) came out cold and were sent back(6) the mains were literally reheated and sent back out (6 now well done poor quality steaks, and 2 well done grey lamb).We asked to speak to the manager, who eventually turned up and apologised and asked if there was anything he could do to rectify the situation. He sent out 2 bottles of cava as an additional apology - we refused to accept it. As 8 of us hadnât actually eaten anything, we requested from the manager a cheese board for 10 with a glass of port as a gesture of goodwill. Needless to say this didnât turn up either! We gave up waiting. The manager then refused to come back into meeting room and instead sending in junior members of staff. Appalling! He was not sincere in his apology, offered no reason for three poor quality ingredients, service and food. Whilst we were happy to pay for the started and drinks that we had, the manager did waiver the entire bill. This went some way to rectifying the night.We have never had issues here, and we always book for special occasions, and have amazing food.It has left a rather sour taste given it was supposed to be a special occasion! For formal complaint will be forthcoming with the owners of the county, and especially the managers attitude!

Tonight was the first time we were here; loved it! We had seafood calzone and bolognese pasta. We were very happy with the quality of food served. Definitely worth trying and we will be back!

I would like to single out Darina a waitress at Cafe Rouge for her very friendly and professional service we received a few days ago. She really was very funny and friendly and a credit to the establishment. We'll definitely come back again. She really made us laugh!

We ate here last Sunday to celebrate my sonâs birthday and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant was quiet and we ate early. This meant we had very attentive service and our food was excellent. A really lovely place which also catered for a gluten free diner very well .

We first visited this restaurant for our 56th wedding anniversary in March 2019 and went again for our birthdays in October. Both times were excellent. There is a quiet and relaxed atmosphere with attentive staff providing a good service. Not hovering but there when you need them. Tables are not too close together and so room to chat without everyone in on the conversation. The food was second to none! We had the Taste of Autumn menu which was four courses and a glass of champagne which was very good value. Will certainly return again. We had lunch here yesterday, great atmosphere on arrival the staff were very friendly and chatty. You are made to feel welcome and relaxed. Sat and had drinks whilst choosing our meals. They have a great menu plenty of options. We were shown to our table and ordered, all of our food was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. Wine prices are very reasonable. The only issue we had was that they do try and cram in too many tables there is very little room the staff were shuffling between tables. They could do with putting a bigger gap between tables giving you a little more privacy. Parking is also limited so you may need to find a local street to park in. Other than that everything was great.

Went for a birthday lunch for my brother today and we all enjoyed the food.There were not that many people there today it being a Sunday I guess, the service was fast and efficient and the waiter was friendly and helpful.Would not hesitate to go back if we are around in Chelmsford again.

This recently opened restaurant that specialises in chicken wings and Portuguese barbecue chicken on authentic charcoal grill is a very welcome addition to Chelmsford. We ordered a selection of wings , the first with Honey and chilli sauce which really got the tastebuds going followed by the hoisin wings which were to die for. My favourite of all has to be the Buffalo strips with pure chicken breast, crispy chicken in a delicious blue cheese and spicy sauce. My partner order the Portuguese spatchcock chicken. They cook it on an open coal fire He raved about this one. All in all, a very reasonably priced meal. The staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. The fresh cosy decor makes it a place you want to go back to. Will we return? Oh yes!
