Alaska is divided into five regions: far north, interior, southwest, south central, and inside passage. Although it takes a long time to see the entire state, you can travel through the regions by boat, car, bus, or plane. Hike through the mountains, or venture out on a deep sea fishing or whale watching excursion. Get in touch with nature by camping in the wilderness, or experience your preferred degree of class and luxury in the beautiful, active cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Popular biking trail along the coast.
If you have a free day in Anchorage, or just want to explore at your own pace, do yourself a favor, and rent a bike downtown and hit the trail. The trail winds along the coast line as you head towards the airport. You will pass Westchester lagoon, a great place for bird watching, as you leave downtown, and pedal through Earthquake Park. If you go up the hill from the park, at the top you will be rewarded by tremendous panoramic views, and a great spot to watch the airplanes takeoff and land. Further down the trail is Point Woronzof Beach and the Kincaid Park. Along the way be on the lookout for some of Alaska's famous residents, bears and especially moose!

I spent a month in Sitka and found so much beauty, yet the place I returned to almost every day was this pristine historical forest. It is a rain forest, a forest beside the sea, a forest along a river, a forest with amazing totem poles planted around a curve, a forest with eagles flying over the tree tops, a forest memorial of a battle site between the natives and the Russians, asking for peace and brotherhood. Whether you have several hours or only 15 minutes this may be the most sacred place you have been.

Yes, there was a real ice cream truck there last winter, which added to the real Alaska experience! We had to turn on the heater to enjoy the ice cream bars in the car, but it was all great fun and a great sunset! Have seen moose nearby, too, and of course the planes booming right overhead are very exciting!!

Once a red-light district, now an arts and crafts shopping area.
Creek Street is always a busling place , so many things to see, lots of history in this area, exciting to see the salmon trying to get upstream, all of the eagles trying to catch a fish, wonderful place

A short flight from Anchorage, arriving at the northernmost community in the USA and one of the northernmost in the world is an experience by itself. The short shuttle ride to the Top of the World Hotel tour office and many vivid scenes make life in such an environment become abundantly clear. After enjoying a great meal with portions enough for two (at least) a wonderful tour experience begins with your guide Mary. Experienced, very pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating.
