Uparkot

Reviewed By akhileshjuhi - Noida, India

Uparkot Fort is historic but neglected by the state government. There are squatters inside the fort selling gift items. No maintenance is done in the fort and it is filled with filth. It's a pity that this place of historical importance is in total neglect. Uparkot Buddhist Caves are fortunately well maintained by the central government. The Buddhist Caves are in three tier and beautiful. It's difficult to belive how these Caves were built in the 2nd century AD for meditation.

Mahabat Maqbara

Reviewed By macedonboy - Glasgow, United Kingdom

The Mahabat Maqbara is a mausoleum of the Nawabs of Junagadh who rule Junagadh between the 18th to 20th century. The building is free to enter and is an architectural wonder. The design is a magnificent fusion of Indian and European architecture, composed of elements from Indo-Islamic, Gothic Revival and a unique Junagadh style for the minars around the mausoleum. The latter are towers but with stairs on the outside and with pavilions on three levels. The floral decorative elements all over the mausoleum are outstanding, which the multi-domed roof of different sized domes are enchanting. The number one thing to see in Junagadh.

Uperkot Fort

Reviewed By AjayVenkatesh - Mumbai, India

Well this is called the uperkot fort because of its location "upar" means high up. This fort was build on a higher land in junagadh. The history of the fort is really mesmerizing. The buddhist caves inside are a must see. You will wonder ho in old days they used to store grains, water and during war times how they think for protection. I took a guide with me and he was really very informative and thus i could learn a lot about this fort.
