We visited La Bambouseraie just a few days ago. The online booking process was simple and efficient as we printed of the receipt and this was accepted with no problem. We arrived in time and the office was empty however we called the phone number provided and M. Brisson appeared shortly thereafter. The visit was very good. Although M Brisson did not speak much English and we do not speak a great deal of French but we got through the visit with the occasional help of Google Translate!! This garden is not all about bamboo! There are plenty more plants, flowers and animals to see. And, at the end of the garden visit, you can sample and buy the Brisson Pineau , Cognacs and Cognac Liqueurs which we did!!

Worth the drive to the end of the island, great views, plentiful parking, small fee to climb the lighthouse. If you have small children or adults who wish to be children north beach access gives rock pools and interesting rock strata. There are cafes, shops but a lovely picnic site should you wish. Sadly the madding crowds are there in abundance.

Le parc floral « Les jardins de Compostelle » a été conçu en 1998 par l’architecte paysagiste rochefortais Jean-François Galinet sur une inspiration hispano-mauresque. Ils s’étendent sur 2 ha en surplomb du Bois Fleuri et offrent 7 séquences paysagères entre bassins et jet d’eau : Le sentier du bois fleuri, la roseraie de St-Jacques qui retrace l’histoire du rosier, la source, les nymphes, le grand canal, les broderies, le cloître. les plantes aromatiques des 4 continents Ouvert d’avril à octobre (selon floraison) de 10h à 20h (accès par porte à jetons à acheter à l’abbaye de Trizay située à 900 m). Tarifs : Individuels Adultes : 4 €/personne (visite libre-prêt de livret de visite). Enfants jusqu’à 12 ans inclus : gratuit. Billet couplé jardins de Compostelle + abbaye : 7.50 €/personne (visites libres). Groupe à partir de 15 personnes : Groupe : 3 €/pers(visite libre-prêt de livret de visite).
