Reviews on Contemporary food in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. A short Metro ride from Washington DC, Alexandria, Virginia is the perfect escape from the fast-paced capital. First settled in 1695, the city retains its colonial spirit, with cobblestone streets and historic buildings in the Old Town, Gadsby's Tavern, a restaurant serving food since 1770, and centers of learning like the Black History Museum. For a more contemporary side of Alexandria, wander the streets of the stylish Del Ray neighborhood, where local artists operate boutiques and studios.

Met friends for my birthday dinner. Staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. We spent a fair amount of time perusing the beer options. Loved that they had taste sizes to purchase for a variety. We ordered burgers and chicken. Food was okay at best. Definitely not the reason we would return. We will be back to continue our journey through the beer choices and will try the pizza. Hope springs eternal.

Excellent dinner service. The host and wait staff are very attentive. The menu is varied and they had a chef’s specials separare menu comprising of white truffle inspired dishes. Every plate we had was delicious. The carbonara very authentic, my wife had the bacon mac n cheese, very creamy and flavorful, my son had the surf and turf, duck breast and jumbo crab cake. Dessert the nuttella pizza is excellent. Drinks were on happy hour and there’s a parking garage. Thank you! It's wonderful you so enjoyed your meal with us, and I'm glad our truffle dishes were your favorite. I appreciate your support on here, and hope to welcome you back soon! -Elena

Service was exemplary. Food incredible. Four of us had daily Halibut special, different spin of amazing spaghetti dish, hamburger and fries, duck, fried calamari. There is a reason the restaurant has been around for 50+ years. Oh, don’t pass up the house made coconut cake. Enough for four to share especially after a wonderful meal.

There are so many nice things to say about Vermillion. They have a creative menu with a la crate and tasting menus, with or without wine. You can select one of their 5-course tasting menus or pick and choose anything to create your own. A la Carte entrees came in a tasting and entree sizes. That’s what we did, including selecting 3 white wines for a wine flight. I thoroughly enjoyed dinner and I would recommend Vermillion without hesitation. We made an advance reservation and I would encourage diners to do that. For a start we had the West Virginia peaches, followed by two different pastas, both excellent. Dessert was the almond tarte, also excellently prepared. Thanks Lee! I am glad you enjoyed your food and wine. We appreciate the stellar review!
