Reviews on Bar food in Courtown, Province of Leinster, Ireland. Courtown (Irish: Baile na Cúirte, meaning "homestead of the court"), is a village which developed after Lord Courtown ordered the construction of a harbour during the Famine years, 1839-1846. The economic boost of the new harbour led to a small village developing with fishing been the primary economy of the village. Courtown is situated on the Irish Sea coast and with the recent development during the "Celtic Tiger" years, has merged into the adjoining village of Riverchapel. It lies on the R742 regional road.

Lovely spot, highly recommended. We had 4 kids Turkey dinners, 2 massive burgers and chips, jug of blackcurrant, 2 cokes and we ate every bit! Delicious food, friendly staff. Would definitely go back. Free ice cream and free choc cake for our daughter whose 8th birthday it was. Altogether €60. Fabulous!

This place has had a complete transformation, the location was always ideal - perched on the top of a hill looking out over the sea, outdoor tables and huge windows we were delighted to hear they had started to serve food. The problem is they only serve food sometimes. This was not clear on their website. We arrived on a night when the kitchen was closed but fresh pizza’s were available. There is nothing else nearby so we were stuck, a 50 minute wait for pizza and another 15 minute wait at the end to try and pay really soured what should be an excellent venue. The staff are very friendly but obviously not professional/experienced and everything seemed an ordeal at busy times we appreciate it might not be viable to open the kitchen 7 days a week but the website needs to make that clear. A nice pint of guinness though

River Bar & Restaurant

We recently visited the Riverbank Hotel in Wexford town for dinner. Before booking in we looked at their menu online and like what we read. The Riverbank does not have a separate restaurant but the main bar is called the “River Bar & Restaurant” where food is served all day.On arrival at the bar we were promptly shown to a reserved table and given menus. We're not galloping gourmets but we are foodies and like well prepared and well presented fresh food. The River Bar & Restaurant menu does read very well and found a number of options that looked enticing and appealed to our tastes. My wife opted for a dish called Italian Chicken which was described as “golden fried breast of chicken filled with crisp parma ham, sun dried tomato, basil & buffalo mozzarella served on a bed of tagliatelle pasta tossed in a sun dried tomato sauce.” My wife is not a pasta lover and opted to ditch the Tagliatelle and have chips instead – as I said we're not gourmets! €19.20 incl chips.I had decided, when looking online, that I was going to have their Seafood Mornay described as “chunky pieces of cod, salmon, smoked haddock & prawns in a creamy cheese sauce, topped with a parsley & cheddar crust.” I am seafood mad. There was no accompanying side dish or vegetables so I added some “Homemade Spicy Potato Wedges” €21.20 incl the Spicy Wedges. After giving our order to the server we were left waiting 45 minutes. We started to feel like maybe they had forgotten about us and 10 minutes later the food arrived at our table....and our hopes went out the window. The Italian Chicken was dry, almost burnt to a crisp, and there was no sign of the delicious fillings the menu description said the Italian Chicken would have. The Seafood Mornay should have had a glorious golden cheesy crust and lots of fresh seafood in a bright creamy, cheesy sauce made with Gruyère or Emmental. (Standard Mornay recipe)What I got was a soup bowl which was topped with an unbelievable amount of burnt breadcrumbs. This 'topping' concealed a dirty grey, salty liquid in which there was five or six chunks of fish and three small shrimp, not prawns. The piece of salmon in the photo shows that the fish had not even been trimmed and the brown muscle tissue was still on it. Much of the underside of the burnt breadcrumbs had soaked into the grey liquid to become a kind of grainy, mealy, gruel. We didn't sent it all back to the kitchen - my wife doesn't like to think what might be done to your food if you send it back to be fixed. In the end, accepted the disappointment and left.Other people seemed to be enjoying things like burgers and fish and chips and that was possibly our mistake. We ordered things from the menu that are, perhaps, beyond what their staff are used to cooking – but they were on the menu!On top of the bad food, the table was sticky and we had to ask to have it cleaned - again. The toilet facilities also suffered from a very poor standard of maintenance. Topped off with the long wait to be served and the very poor table service we experienced, the Riverbank Hotel Bar & Restaurant is one be avoided unless you like burgers or fish & chips.

Extremely rude bar man, no customer service skills what so ever. One younger waitress quite friendly other older one very rude practically slammed our food on the table. Served with a warm half filled milkshake. Overall very poor service and will not be back. embarrassed to have taken my family there who are visiting Ireland. Will never return or recommend.

Visited these premises on several occasions for food while passing through Gorey, but tonight we decided we would not return. We both ordered fish and chips and when it came it looked appetising enough and its fair to say that we both ate what was on the plate,(we were hungry) however the fish was a very small portion and I think that for €15.95 this was very poor value for money. We don't want a huge plate of chips, we want the main item to be extremely tasty and good value, and unfortunately it wasn't really either. Very disappointing.
