Urbino (Italian: [urˈbiːno]; listen (help·info)) is a walled city in the Marche region of Italy, south-west of Pesaro, a World Heritage Site notable for a remarkable historical legacy of independent Renaissance culture, especially under the patronage of Federico da Montefeltro, duke of Urbino from 1444 to 1482. The town, nestled on a high sloping hillside, retains much of its picturesque medieval aspect. It hosts the University of Urbino, founded in 1506, and is the seat of the Archbishop of Urbino. Its best-known architectural piece is the Palazzo Ducale, rebuilt by Luciano Laurana.

This little caffe offers a respite for weary feet having plodded the stairs of the ducal palace. The views of the palace and the duomo are a perfect backdrop. Perfect setting for an afternoon espresso.

Tartufi Antiche Bonta is a combination shop which sells local products such as pasta, cheeses, and truffle products and a downstairs restaurant with half a dozen tables. The restaurant has a set menu of toast with truffle sauce, a selection of locally produced salamis, prosciutto, cheeses, jams and honey, and a dessert. Very enjoyable, and it made for a wonderful lunch.

We stumbled across this quirkily decorated, vintage comic themed cafe for a late lunch when visiting Urbino - it turned out to be a lovely spot to cool down on a hot day. We had a delicious platter of meats, cheeses and olives with bread which I would thoroughly recommend. Great service too.
