My husband and I were keen to experience a truly authentic ecolodge in this beautiful and little visited part of Peru and were not disappointed. The dedication of Eduardo de la Cadena, the owner of the lodge, to the preservation of this magical forest is truly admirable and his enthusiasm infectious. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home and he made sure that the experience reflected our interests. Birdwatching with an expert guide and nature walks among the intriguing cloud forest were captivating. The forest came alive with the unexpected! Our room was simple, tasteful and comfortable. Plenty of lovely hot water and nice crisp cotton sheets in spite of the very strictly adhered to Eco credentials. Great toiletries! Nights are cold and the duvet nice and cosy. After a day of immersion in nature we were rewarded with delicious meals of locally sourced produce, delicious home made breads and exotic fruit jams. Eduardo’s wife is an accomplished chef and presented our dishes with flair. A real treat! Breakfast was something to look forward to each morning! I thoroughly recommend staying at Uculmano Lodge to anyone visiting this part of the world who is keen to support this very special and valuable preservation project.
