This house is a gem in a back street in Murnau with a very pretty garden (designed by Munter and Kandinsky). Inside are a lot of paintings by Munter and some furniture and fitting painted by Kandinsky, both being founders of the Blaue Reiter movement.

There is Blue Rider work on display, including work by longtime local resident Gabrielle Muenter. It is well worth adding to a trip to Murnau to see the house where she and Wassily Kandinsky lived and worked. The surprise is the collection of "Hinterglas Malerei" or glass painting, which Muenter and Kandinsky experimented with. Used mainly for religious art, which is amply displayed, the museum shows contemporary and very imaginative glass work as well.

Had great coffee, hot chocolate (the visiting kids loved it) and wonderful cakes. Nice service - at time a little slow, when the cafe is crowded. But that was not a problem.
