The most photographed view of Lysekil is found here.
But.. ..
That is not the real attraction!
Take a walk to the top of the rock hill.
Look at the unbroken horizon and contemplate the meaning of life.
Wonderful! If you are really late you can find the ultimate sunset.
If its windy or story, you can see the brute forces of nature and recognize your own insignificance. Educative

Havets Hus

Havets Hus was founded in 1993 and is today one of the most popular destinations in the Bohuslan region. Every year, close to 80 000 visitors get acquainted with over 100 fascinating species - from the lesser spotted dogfish to dead man's finger. All of the species live in the West Coast seas. The Havets Hus Aquariums offer lots of exciting experiences. The journey begins in the shore area and continues through the different habitats of the ocean, down to the seafloor at great depth. Our Aquariums are continuously fed with sea water from the Gullmar fjord, collected a depth of 32 metres. The salinity is around 30 to 33 per thousand and the water quality is very good; free of contaminants and with good oxygenation. This is a prerequisite for the wellbeing of the aquarium fish and animals. The aquarium is open every weekend and daily fron February to October.

Enjoyed the aquarium which was fairly small but found fish interesting as it is based on local marine life. Found the flatfish fascinating with their patterns which blend into the sea bed. Did seal safari after which was great getting out amongst the hundreds of rocky Islands. Great scenery and saw hundreds of seals. Was very windy so quite rough which troubled those amongst us with poor sea legs. Kids enjoyed the day - the 7 year old preferred the aquarium but 10 year old loved the rocking and rolling boat!

Lysekil Church

Reviewed By RikiUSA - Edmond, Oklahoma

Landmark Lysekil Church is visible for miles as it towers above the coastal Swedish town of Lysekil. Serving as a navagation mark, the spectacular narrow spire rises 95 feet above sea level. For visitors, the most dramatic views are seaside whereby one has enough distance to view the entire facade of the pick granite church perched on the coast of Lysekil, in western Sweden.
Built in 1910 by Adrian Petersen, Lysekil Church's pink granite was quarried nearby. The tower and the spire make Lysekil Church easy to locate when walking in the town. My husband and I were fascinated by the church and made the trek up to explore this beautiful landmark by the sea. Lysekil Church is a wonder with its tall, slender spire perched high above the town.
Lovely seaside Lysekil is a treasure. When we visited in the summer, visitors can cause the town to triple its size. Still, little Lysekil maintains its quaint seaside charm with the breeze drifting through the town from all directions. Colorful, quaint Lysekil offers water activities, terrific shopping, restaurants, cafes on decks and summer Concerts in the centre park.
My husband and I sat in the beautiful park, with locals of all ages, and listened to a performer singing Frank Sinatra songs in Swedish and English. Lysekil's locals and visitors cruise the narrow streets in various models of vintage cars. Set against the backdrop of Lysekil Church, we had a wonderful experience watching a musical performance with colorful, vintage automobiles quietly cruising through little Lysekil. A visit to the towering neo-gothic Lysekil Church is memorable and highly recommended when exploring beautiful seaside Lysekil, Sweden.

This was an outstanding boat trip. We toured the area, including the local fjord (gullmarsfjorden) and surrounding archipelago. Our captain was very knowledgeable and very friendly. We saw a great deal of gorgeous scenery with cliffs and pretty villages. The boat is recently refitted with all the current navigation equipment and was extremely stable. It was clean and well kept. We had a nice snack of coffee and cinnamon buns. This couple also runs the local aquarium, which is also interesting ( not just for children).

Our cruise ship visited the small town of Lysekil of which Gamla Stan is the 200 year Old Town neighbourhood. It is made up of a main narrow street with some short streets and alleyways off to the side. It has brightly coloured individual wooden houses with colourful yards and Gardens and a few small businesses. It is a short distance away from the sea and also the current main commercial area. It is worth a short visit to take in the characteristics of the quiet environment.
