After two decades of living in the mother city, we decided to try this activity called hiking to this far off destination De Villiers Dam off Constantia Nek or as close as we can get to it. We started off late on a Sunday afternoon, we walked up the Jeeps trail instead of taking the shorter but steeper stairs route. The dust road gradually meanders upwards and onwards we slowly progressed. We stopped at 30 Minute to get the heart rate down and upward we went. About an hour into then journey, we bumped into friends which gave us another welcome break. And the point where the second set of steps ended and met the Jeep trial, the road gets very steep for about 15-20 minutes before it plateaus out and the walk becomes flattish. All the time up, you are spoilt with the most beautiful scenery of the southern peninsula, which is breathtaking from a metaphoric view point as well. Although physically demanding its soul food and well worth the effort. Keep an eye out for the sandy pathway to De Villiers dam. The walk up took about 1hr 15min. With sun setting and the mist falling we decided to hike back, this time we decided to take the steps path down, the descent took just short of 45min but the steps can be a bit taxing but is manageable. All in all, what a great experience and breath of fresh air to get away from the Conora self isolation
