Top 7 Things to do in Can Tho, Vietnam

October 31, 2017 Russell Mellin

Can Tho is the main city of the Mekong Delta, the "nine dragon river delta" where the Mekong River empties into the South China Sea. It's also the main transportation center for the region. The extensive canals make for a pleasant boat ride, and the nearby floating markets offer authentic goods and exotic local fruit. *Fly into Ho Chi Minh City International Airport where you can take a car or van (approximately 4 hours) to Can Tho.

Ong Temple

Reviewed By Charon666 - San Francisco, California

There are many temples in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, and nothing outstanding about this one. It is a local sight, with statues, altars and photos of people you couldn't easily learn anything about. If you've come all this way and have time, then go see it. Nothing is in English. Wear shoes that are easy to take off and put on!

Binh Thuy Communal House

After seeing dozens of heritage houses across SEA, this is a rather disappointing example. The facade is well preserved but the inside is rather gloomy. Bear in mind this can be a very busy attraction because it's on the to see list of tour groups.

Sau Hoai's Rice Noodle Factory

Reviewed By Vahinemoena - Moorea, French Polynesia

Most people just visit the rice noodle factory on a tour to the floating market. But Mr. Sau actually has a couple of rooms to rent. The rooms are cheap with a comfortable bed and include half board with a very copious evening meal. I had the best spring rolls of my life! I tried all kind of sweets made with local ingredients like coconut, palm sugar, sticky rice, mungo beans and so on.
My floating market tour started right in front of the work shop, no road drive needed. The boat lady was always smiling and gave me a lot of time to take pictures, a very pleasant trip indeed.
Unfortunately I was the only guest and I had nobody to talk to in the evening.Couldn't work either because my computer had crashed and I needed to go back to Saigon to have it fixed - otherwise I would have stayed longer.
I can really recommend Sau Hoai's homestay.

You can take a leisurely walk around Can Tho to visit its many Pagodas. Quang Duc has an interesting gold wall, and only takes 5-10 minutes to walk around.

Museum of Tarot

Museum of Tarot (in short term, or sometime Museum of Tarot and Oracle, or officially Museum of Tarot and Occult), founded in 2016 (will officially open in 2017), is located in Can Tho City, in the south of Vietnam. The museum has three themes: Lithotherapy, Cartomancy and Demonology. The museum has a large variety of objects from 15th century to 21th century. The museum is established in an ancient noble hotel, called “the citron house”, under the Vietnamese renaissance style. This house is sacrificed for the museum by an old couple of lawyer, Anh Ngo and Duong Ho in 2016.

In our summer vacation to Can Tho, my friends and I visited this amazing museum. We found lots of tarot and oracle even magic which made us totally surprised and impressed. I very appreciated the owner's passionate and enthusiasm introduction so my friends, who don't know much about tarot, love it much as well. We might feel clearly mysterious atmosphere and the effort to obtaining the huge stunning collection. Thank a lot and recommend

Can Tho Museum

Good exhibits on Khmer and Chinese contributions to the Mekong Delta's development, also interesting is a small exhibit on local watercraft.

Reviewed By KirstieC - Manchester

We went on a Friday when it's supposedly closed. Was open 6am til 11am and free of charge. A decent ethnographic display of Vietnamese history with a strong focus on the different wars with Cambodia, America and China. Limited English signage apart from outside where there's an interesting display of burnt out cars and helicopters, plus armoured cars from the Khmer war.

Thien Vien Truc Lam Phuong Nam has only just opened for just over a year and was an interesting place to visit. I thought it worth the motorbike ride out to see this place. The architecture was nice. The day was cool with a breeze, so was nice to walk around. When you have finished, walk across the street and grab a hammock and chill out for awhile with an Ice Coffee
