Cathedrale Sainte-Marie de Bayonne

Reviewed By Vitor A - Lisbon, Portugal

In the last decades, I had already drove quite a few times by Bayonne without having stopped in there. This time as I was ending the day and I decided to spend the night in there. What a great surprise; the Centre with its harmonious architecture, its Cathedral and the two rivers give the town an unexpected beauty. Next time I take that high-way I’ll stop for sure again in Bayonne. Enjoy!

Basque Museum (Musee Basque)

For €6.50, we found this museum to be worth the money and quite interesting. It has a very good layout and is in chronological order on the lower floors and theme based on the upper floors. Some numbers on the English booklet didn't quite match the rooms, but it was easy to locate. Probably 1-2 hours here depending if you read French.

L'atelier du chocolat de Bayonne

Reviewed By JMParker64 - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

we walked over to the L`atelier and had not expected to find it in a wee industrial estate. That was not a problem for either of us, in our minds we had imagined an oldy worldy type shop. Entry was €6, and the young lassie explained to us that it would take about an hour for the tour, which told the history of Chocolate. At the end we could try the samples.
My first thought was I will get round this in no time, but have to say we were very interested and it take us the hour.
Needless to say my favourite bit was the taste testing. They were not stingy at all with the selection or the quantity available. I sampled everything, and then proceeded to pig out on 2 of my favourites.
The shop is by the tasting area, but there was no hard sell. A fantastic selection to choose from. I bought a wee supply.
Oh and I would like to add that it is very wheelchair friendly as well. When we arrived there was a party of 3 young men with their carers. There is substantial room to get wheelchairs around.

Jardin Botanique

Reviewed By Valerie H - Birmingham, United Kingdom

We were very shocked that the garden was minute, certainly not good for the disabled and closed at luchtimes. Why the staff couldn't have staggered lunches to cater for the tourists, I don't know? Most of the plants were marked incorrectly or not even there. Very dissapointing takes about 10 minutes to walk round

Arenes de Bayonne

Reviewed By Cubansalsalover - Barrie

We had booked tickets for a bull fight at Bayonne before we left, and we found out that it was the annual fêtes de Bayonne (Feria) which is France’s largest festival, attracting more than one million visitors each year. All the people wear white with a red scarf and a red belt the same as Pamplona. My husband and son did not want to bother wearing red and white. I insisted we go to a supermarket and pick up red scarfs and belts to wear with our white jeans and shirts. I am so glad we did as EVERYONE was wearing the Pamplona colours! We had to park outside the city and people were parked on the side of the highway. We ended up parking on a grass verge, but I saw people parked on roundabouts! As we walked towards the arena, which took us 45 minutes, we spotted many vans with the doors open and people sleeping. Others had brought BBQs and were cooking. Party people everywhere!

Eglise Saint-Andre

Reviewed By Jane C - Languedoc-Roussillon, France

We went in this church whilst exploring the area. It is over looked by the old Arsenal Building which is now part of the University. It is a big building and quite impressive. It is light inside compared to many churches with a lovely rose window above the main doors. Worth a look if you are passing by.
