Chiesa Parrocchiale S.Antonio Abate

Reviewed By 674christophern - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Dolceaqua is not a town short of visual drama. Cross the centuries-old Ponte Vecchio and you come face to face withe the pastel-shades of a church which would make a fine opera backdrop. Venture inside and the drama soars. Here is a jewel box of baroque extravagance, meticulously maintained by its congregation. In the dim light of a wet March day, the ubiquitous gilding and glittering crystal chandeliers shone out as though they had been polished that very morning. Norther Italy is not short of fine baroque churches, but this miniature gem must rank among the finest.
