This Shan (Burmese) style temple is well worth a stop. Beautiful Teak and inlay work very tastefully done. There is a serenity about this temple that makes it worth the visit.

Wat Pong Sunan

Wow, where to start. We are just halfway through a 4 week tour of Thailand and this is head and shoulders the best temple we have seen. Immediately on entering the temple compound we were confronted with an absolutely huge golden reclining buddha, absolutely magnificent. Opposite this are two main buildings. The first is a traditional looking temple with gloriously intricate external decoration and a stunning interior with large golden Buddha. The second is the most fantastically ornamental white building with a sculpted exterior of spires, statues and mouldings - like something from another world. Behind these is a compound housing a giant tortoise carrying a standing Buddha and, to cap it all off, the entire compound was bedecked in Chinese lanterns hanging from wires. The visual effect of the hole place is just startling. I’ve said it before in other reviews from Phrae but if this was in Bangkok the tourists would be here by the bus load. As it was we saw only 7 other people.
