On a rainy day, we followed the tip from Lonely Planet, what a great decision!
The hubby had the caldillo de congrio and seafood empanadas, I had the cheese empanadas with a tomato/cucumber salad. Every single thing was really good. The best empanadas we've had in Chile (with Punta Choros; interestingly, 2 tiny places lost in the middle of nowhere). The bread was nice and fresh. I had a mint tea, the leaves had just been cut.
It's true, the staff was amazingly kind. Even when I said that I was vegetarian and asked for the cheese empanadas, the waiter (maybe the owner) didn't have that look that I get so many times at those places where fish or meat is the specialty. In the end, he brought a home-made liquor with three glasses; one was for him. We loved that! He also gave us maps and a guest book where we left a note as many other travelers did before us.
The view on the bay is great. We arrived, the boat were in the water right across the street; 1 hour later, they were hanging on the sand. It was low tide!
We wish we were able to go back the next day, it's truly one of a kind.

First only wanted to go for a coffee, but after beeing so cordially shown around we settled on the 2nd floor terasse with a stunning view of the ocean. Ordered the daily menu for 4,000 pesos, what a deal includes salad bread butter pork schnitzel rice or fries and a desert, and wow, was that lunch ever good. The service was impeccable and when we gave the waiter an extra tip, he said no no, it is already included it in the bill and the extra is not necessary, talk about honest people. A must stop when you are in Quemchi

Llegamos al Fogón La Pincoya tras cruzar al la isla Mechuque desde Tenaún. Una vez en la isla hay que caminar por la calle que lleva al puente (obligado lugar para sacar fotos) y una vez cruzado el mismo tomar la calle hacia la izquierda hasta el final, allí está el restaurante.
Nosotros fuimos por nuestra cuenta, es decir sin tour contratado y cuando llegamos al lugar y tras ver que había unas pocas personas nos alegramos pensando que disfrutaríamos de un curanto al hoyo en paz sin tener que aguantar los masivos grupos de turistas arrastrados por guías. No fue así, al poco tiempo llegó el inevitable tour con sus palos selfies y todo el encanto se perdió.
Al igual que en Colonia Suiza en Bariloche, Argentina, el curanto al hoyo parece ser un plato exclusivo para turistas donde la calidad de la preparación no importa tanto como el show que debe montarse en torno a ello. Desde la puesta de los ingredientes sobre las piedras, el posterior destapado, la acordeonista que fuerza al público a cantar y pasarla bien. En fín, no se trata de ir a comer sino de ser víctima de un espectáculo.
El curanto estaba rico, no más que eso. La empanada de manzana deliciosa.

I really liked this place. The location is great, the view amazing, the Terrace just perfect!!!!!! From the outside is nice, but the service and hospitality of the hosts make it even better!!!!!!
Totally recommend it, good coffee, lovely treats, great service.
I missed something savory on the menu, but well done! You nailed it!

We were desperate for a proper coffee after 10 days of Nescafé and came across this cafe on our tour of the wooden churches. It was closed for a private kids’ birthday party, but the owner asked the mum in charge if we could come in and she said OK. He has a real coffee machine and we enjoyed americanos with a little milk in the side. There were nice-looking tarts and the speciality is pancakes. There is Wi-fi and very clean toilets. A real gem in Chiloe!

Muy buena cocina, ricos y abundantes platos. Muy limpio. Cerca de la isla de Aucar. Comimos congrio a lo pobre, lo compartimos en dos y plato mapuche (cerdo, papa y mote). Todo muy bien preparado. Y muy buena atención. Muy recomendable. También tienen Pulmay y Curanto
