Best food on Ouvea by far. Not expensive. Had great big coconut crab and fantastic chocolate dessert out on the terrasse hearing the waves.

Snack Didewaa Mafatou Sur Mer

Reviewed By Cédric D - Brisbane, Australia

We were walking back from the tip of the Mouli island and we found this snack, on the sea front of the Ouvea lagoon. The place is lovely, typical, and nicely decorated. The two women there, and the boss who came later, were very nice. The food was a choice of prawns, fish filet or full fish with rice, pawpaw salad and fried bananas - simple and very nice local food. They have a variety of sodas and some local beer for drink. It's worthwhile the walk, as the place you will have lunch is dominating a few meters cliff over a natural marine reserve on the lagoon (no swimming).

Nice place to discover typical food made of local ingredients, nice and friendly but bring your mousquito repelant!
The place is lost in the middle of nowhere, even the sign is barely visible.
The restaurant is actually a big hutt for maximum 20 guests
We had a fish bougna (gniam, tarot, white fish, sweet potatoes ; cooked in coconut into leaves in a hole with hot stones).
Absolutely delicious, very generous too comparedto what we had in Isle of Pines.
Our hosts were nice and helpfull, certainly a good place to have a lunch in the melanesian way.

Portes du Paradis

The food is very local - but not cheap. We had green papaya with curry powder, a mound of rice - cooked with coconut milk maybe, and a whole small fish gutted and grilled. Price CFP 2500 - around NZ$35. There was no one there our night - just us. You can do better on Ouvea.

Paradis D'ouvea

Walked more then 7km to get here as all car and scooter rentals were booked out. Considering the price of the hotel rooms, my wife and I were expecting a much better speed of service and menu selection: It took around 30mins to be attended too, and only 4 options for lunch - 2 of which were burger and steak. Food was fine, but when in paradise one has high expectations. In fairness, only 2 staff were on and they were manic. Recommend coming early for the best seats and instant serving.

Okafika

Reviewed By sabrina2014613 - Perth, Australia

We arrived around 12:45pm with my two children and 3 adults but there was a big table already sitted that had already ordered. After waiting for about 20min a waitress came not very welcoming. We asked for sandwiches as there were 2 types written on their board but sharply she told us that they had no bread left. When I asked if she could do something simple and small for my children she told me that I could get a steak but it was 2900 in comparison with the sandwiches that were 500XPF. She didn't try to accommodate us and appeared to be annoyed by us as they were busy enough. We left without any food and ended up eating at the soleil levant which was very nice and friendly.

Conveniently located next to the main hotel on the island, only a 5 minute walk away down the beach or along the road. Very pleasant outdoor Seating under a palm-frond roof, with a solid structure house and proper kitchen providing the meals. Chicken was succulent and the fish was delicious. They also serve local beer, but you'll need to bring your own wine. Highly recommend. They do not have a phone (at least at the time of visiting) so you'll need to travel to them first to make the reservation.
