Beautiful setting, gorgeous tasteful building and amenities, polite friendly staff, however, shockingly poor service which I believe is due to very poor management and training.I booked afternoon tapas at 3pm on the terrace outside for 4 people of which 3 of them had a joint birthday hence the reason for seeking out somewhere special. I asked for this to be noted and some kind of recognition when serving desserts. I checked they had that on the system twice as I had read a review stating that they failed to do this with someone else's booking. We were led into a lovely room for afternoon tea upon which time I reminded them that I had booked a table outside. Not a problem as a table was found outside and we were seated. Interestingly the man forgot his sheet which had almost all the correct details upon booking printed on it. Tapas on the terrace, x 3 instead of 4 but I added the 4th 2 days prior so can be forgiven.40 mins later a lovely lady arrived and layed the table with cups and saucers. Again I had to remind them that it was afternoon tapas not tea and that it was prosecco rather than tea. Not a problem, this was remedied despite the cups and saucers being left. By 4pm we were all getting pretty hungry when the food finally arrived. The tiniest servings I've ever seen for tapas (and we have tapas often and at many places) and a tray of sweet treats brought out at the same time which I might add the wasps rather enjoyed. Knowing wasps in summer is always a slight problem it's perhaps common sense to bring the sweets out after tapas was finished with? Tapas was delicious but only one mouthful per serving so a little disappointing. The desserts helped fill the gap. Pity there was no spoons or forks to eat them with though. Ever tried eating a vanilla putting out of a bottle with a used fork? Not very elegant. We did ask for spoons of course but waited so long (15 mins) that we improvised. Probably due to hunger. As for the birthday message on the plate or something to mark the occasion well it didn't happen. Nobody came back to ask if we'd like another drink so we went indoors to the bar and nobody around to ask for the bill so I went to reception to pay as we were leaving and was then directed to the bar to pay. I'm certain that if we had walked out without paying it wouldn't have even been noticed. There seemed a lack of staff, lack of attention and a lack of training. Such a shame because the hotel, grounds and facilities have the potential to be outstanding. We were in great company in a beautiful setting so didn't allow it to ruin the day but I have cancelled my plan to take my husband there for his birthday weekend in Nov. I would only go back if I could be sure that the restaurant team and management had got their act together.

The Cellar Ringwood

An authentic gem in the middle of Ringwood. Blending the finest wines with cold cuts and a wide variety of cheeses, in a beautiful environment. Stop in for a drink on your way out or spend the evening in a very relaxed and welcoming environment.

I have visited the Cellar on three occasions over the past six months and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as part of a large group, a smaller booking and even as a twosome. The service, the food and the wine has been excellent. It is well managed and accommodating, as you would expect from a small independent business. If you like the wine and cheese offer, you will not be disappointed and the Cellar goes that little bit further on quality than you might experience at similar establishments in Wimborne and Verwood (not to knock them in saying this- its just the Cellar is marginally better at it). I highly recommend this business and do not be put off by one parties experience which has 3 slightly negative reviews on this platform which I think is an unlikely experience.. Although I am sure they speak with honest reflection, that was one group only, out of hundreds of people who will experience a different outcome. I am entirely independent of this business but I know a decent operation when I see it and the team here work very hard to please and succeed 99% of the time. So go on, give it a try and support a lovely local business working hard to deliver excellent results. I will be back for sure.Thank you very much for your review and we do try our very best. A genuine Italian bistro, we had the lunchtime special menu (two courses). The food was very good and the service was too. Staff were extremely friendly. The only negative comment I have is that the tables are very close together so if you had someone noisy next to you it could be quite intrusive.
