Carrieres des Lumieres

In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrieres de Lumieres” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour,” created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

This was an absolutely stunning experience. We hadn't bought tickets so stood in line for about an hour but wow, was it ever worth it! Magical is about the best way I can describe it. When we attended it was showing the Van Gogh - a starry night and you were right within the beautiful Van Gogh paintings. An absolutely fantastic and must-see experience. The lovely thing is that it is a continuously playing show so you can stay for a while and just immerse yourself in the magic of the Arts and Music Immersive experience (AMIA) technology. You do NOT want to miss this if you are an art lover.

For me this is the highlight of my visit to les Baux, initally came to the museum for the Signac exposition but was also amazed by artwork of Yves Brayer. He depicted his city panoramas beautifully. Very well worth a visit!

My husband and I were on a river cruise and Les Baux was one of the optional tours offered. We are so glad that we booked this tour. It was amazing, with so much to see, do and photograph. We stopped at the Office of Tourism where we were warmly greeted and provided with all the pamphlets and maps to help us visit the many sites here. The Les Baux de Provence Plan/Map was especially helpful as it showed exactly where everything is located with pictures and a brief history. Easy to follow. The Office of Tourism is the Maison Du Roy. According to available literature, "Until the French Revolution, the center of the jurisdiction of Les Baux was dispensed from this building, the "King's House", built in 1499. In the second part of the 19th century, an opening was made in the ramparts behind the building, giving the town the entrance we see today." Lots of history. Lots to see, enjoy and photograph. Don't miss it!
