Even there is no natural snow the Skikarussel is open. You can rent ski, helmet, stocks and shoes for 27€/day and a skipas you can buy for 33€. For that price you can ski a hole day without doing one pistes more than twice. A huge area. Ok, not for professional but as beginners we enjoyed us 4 days. You have a lot of "Skihütte" .
That's all just around the corner.

always hard to ensure the children never gets bored on holiday so with researching before we travelled and Winterberg about 1 hour drive away still thought it was worth a visit and fancied having ago on a toboggan ride, during the winter it becomes a major ski resort in area but during summer they change to mountain bike activity's, plenty of car parking spaces, we parked almost to top of hill and took a short walk down hill, the main reason to come here was the toboggan ride which the children was look forward to, and it was great fun too, but be warned no health and safety or not much, once you sit in car it takes you up to top of hill once there its down hill and gravity taken you down, and no stoppers to stop the car coming off, but ihavn't heard any car coming off, as you can pick up some speed you do have a brake lever in front to slow you down and the other issues is you can get your hand stuck between the car and track so make sure you keep your hands in at all times even though i did tell my daughter but she still put her hand out but came out lucky with a slight mark, but dont let this put you off, we did go on a few times and it was great fun, the children did really enjoy the ride...
the bridge we never went on as 1 daughter cant walk too farand thought it wasn't worth the price just to walk alongbridge then back again just for the view, there is plenty of places in Germany for great views without paying a price for it, as for the rest of the place if you have your mountain bike with you then cycle down the slopes then take the ski lift back upto the top, its very popular for locals and tourist alike and it was worth the hour drive to here, theres a small crazy golf, a restuarant but we went for the little food van by entrance from main road, dont forget to take your glass bottles back as in Germany you get money back but then again I let her keep the money for it as the chips where good with the currywurst.........so let your hair down and try tobbaggon no matter what age but not comfy going up hill but great fun coming down thats if you havn't got a slow rider in front of you.......

Ruhrquelle

In the midd of winter, surrounded by snow, a steady stream of crystal clear water was pouring out. That is not so remarkable by itself. However, on the display board you could see that it is a rather nice place when the vegetation is out and everything is green. The spring is the "birthplace" of the river Ruhr who gave name to a whole region, the Ruhrgebiet. The Ruhrgebiet was the heart of coal mining, steel production and the engine for Germany's industrial growth and prosperity. And that's why this place is special: something small and rather insignificant can become big and important. Access by car is easy. Also many opportunities to access by hiking or biking for example from Winterberg.

Snow World

Reviewed By myra k - Warrington, United Kingdom

Great fun to be had here, you can learn to ski on the learner slopes or you can go snow tubing which is so much fun, you can also go sledging or snow-boarding there are 3 or 4 different slopes with varying degree of competence. The café on site serves up lovely warming soups and schnitzel and hot chocolate, which you will need if you go mid winter as I did. Great value for money an hours ski lesson with professional teacher is 38 euros for first person then 12 euros thereafter for anyone else you are with. Highly recommended for hours of fun.

If you feel like skiing - you can go there. Especially if you need kind of warm up or you want to learn it. Slopes are well prepared but not super long. But there is plenty lifts and slopes - so it's not crowded.

Astenturm

It is easy to drive up to the Astenturm. However, I hiked up there on a smowy day as part of the Rothaarsteig. So I was happy with a warm meal at the restaurant, though the Germknoedel (a big dumpling made from flour and yeast) was a little dense. Menu had several soups and other easy prepared dishes. Self-service. Indoor and weather permitting outdoor Seating. In the building is also a small museum about the local natural history. Worthwhile to stop by. Walking and hiking opportunities around the summit.
